I would rather have both, but if I have to choose, then it is easy because quality big men are alot harder to come by than the little guys, especially ones that don't play D(a little joke for the Cat):D

Looks like Eddie and Yao are winning in a landslide. 11-0?

Well River, since we don't actually have to pick and we have them all, why not build around all of them?

However, judging by the 11-0 lead that Griffin and Ming have as of this moment, I would think that most people agree with my tall talent beats small talent theory.

    :)

What about Steve and Ming or Steve and Griffin? I think it's too early to tell. Yes, I agree that it is hard to find tall talent, but the Bulls dominated without a franchise center as did the Celtics and the Pistons. I think the Jury is still out on Ming and Griff, they have loads of potential but have yet to really show what they can do since one just finished his rookie year and the other has yet to play in the NBA. Francis has already shown that he is a franchise player and worthy of building around. Let's say that Ming comes in and at his best is a 15 to 19 ppg type guy, 12 rbg, 2 blks. Those are great #'s for a center, but do you build around that? Tall or short, do you take Ming or Kobe? The center position will be so weak when Shaq is gone, centers will be complimentary guys, not stars. What about Ming's game, the guy is mostly a jump shooter. How do you build a team around a 7' 5" jump shooter. Do we just need a pg and a bunch of PF's who can get the ball down low from Ming after he draws attention away? Either way, we should all be freaking grateful what we have all 4 of these guys. Stop trying to look for reasons why we need to get rid of our current stars and role the dice on potential stars. Think about how this team woul work together. Steve and Cat are penetrators, if a center is in the way, then they pass it out to ming for a jumper. After Ming hits a few, he draws the center out and opens the lane up for Steve and Cat to slash the other teams defense. I don't really know Griff's game, I thought he would be a SF like Abdur Rahim, but he wants to play the 4 and will be big enought to very soon. So he can hit 3's like Rasheed, play defense like Dream, and then I don't know, does he have a post game? Add that to a Defensive stopper or a 3 pt shooting SF and we have the best starting five in 3 years.

i want Both. Ilove Francis and Mobley. Maybe they could be a better defenders, but they are young and will learn. But the reason i want Ming Griffin, is because i don't think a player should say the thing Stevie and Mobley have said, and i DON'T want odom. If Stevie and Mobley wanna leave if we draft Ming then let them go i don't want players who threat to leave if they don't get it there way.

I think its easier to win a championships with a good front court than a good back court. Front courts score, rebound, and play defense. Back courts just score and at a lower percentage. Michael Jordan was the exception to this rule because he got front court results while playing guard.

I'm one of the biggest Mobley supporters on this board, so I would hate to see him leave. However, if Francis is trying to control this team like Troy says he is, then ship him off for Miller, Payton or Williams.

I voted for "Ming & Griffen". I sure hope that Griffen is Eddie Griffin and this isn't a trick question with the answer being Bill GriffEN who is a Compaq Center beer vendor.

Good big men over good little men. Can you say "Andre Miller"?

I have the patience if Les Alexander does.

There is no way on Gods Green Earth he's a 73% jump shooter

all you saw in his workouts were jumpshots
but that wasn't up to him. I really can't speak for Ming and his skills, I haven't seen him enough

but for all of you who are at Steve's feet
take a look at John Stockton/Gary Payton's hands

no rings for two of prob the best points to ever play the game
this is a big man's league, no doubt

Derick Fisher, Kenny Smith, assorted Bulls PG's were all good enough

Also, when you build a team, you need leaders. See what happened to Toronto, Carter was their guy, but he doesn't lead that team and they are slowly going to fall apart. Griffin is compared to Duncan in the way he acts on the court, but I think Griff is even quieter. Ming is from overseas, and there has yet to be an overseas guy leading his team. Gasol is the best player on the Grizz, but Battier leads that team. Steve and Cat are the vocal leaders, if we trade them away who will be the team leader? Who is going to step up? There isn't another guy on this team who can fire up the rest of the guys like Steve and Mobley. And yes Steve and Cat are cocky. Shaq and Kobe are cocky, Kidd is cocky, KG is cocky, Payton is cocky, MJ is very cocky, Bird was cocky, magic was cocky, Isiah was cocky, Wilt was cocky, etc do you see the pattern here. All the greats are cocky, believing in your self is half of what you need to do to be better than everybody. Ali, Nolan Ryan, Lemiux, the list goes on. By the way, Steve and Cat work hard all summer long and play like there's no tomorrow, but I guess that doesn't make them dedicated. We should lock this thread and replace it with a new poll. Would you rather have 2 good players, or 4?

Heck,....why not build around the duo of Griffin & Yao...and cat & Steve...We could have such a promising frontcourt as well as an established backcourt...how bout that?

Everyone else on the team would compliment the two guards or the two big guys,..life is beautiful!

    :)

This is basically a response to TroyBarros alluding to the fact
that Steve would DEMAND a trade if we draft Ming and don't make the playoffs.

If he demands a trade his running buddy would want one too.
So . . Should we draft Ming. . . and end up trading Steve
    or
Pass on Ming . . just to keep Steve .

This is more complicated than my poll has made it.

    I mean: Pass on Ming
we maybe: Steve, Cat, Odom, Griff and Cato
Take Ming: Ming, Griffen, what ever we can get from Steve and Cat [Which Andre Miller would not be a stretch IMO]

The 1st team in the short run is better. . .but once you fill out the
other position POST steve within the next two years. . . . . .
    u never know.

I'd rather have had "C" all of the above.

Without FRANCIS, we are a lottery team, JWILL or not (he's good, but he's no Francis). Cut all the sideshow stuff and he's got HEART! He is a threat every night for a triple double even with a FRICKIN' MIGRAINE!!!!

I think it's good to have one of each, ala Shaq/Kobe. A frontcourt/backcourt duo is more versatile and can spread the defense more better than a frontcourt/frontcourt attack. I put my money on big men, though, of course. Aren't we lucky to have both!

Interesting, the Kings have to face this same $$ question with Bibby's contract. If Griffin/Ming can play as well as Webber/Vlade - that's pretty darn good. Bibby is obviously THE MAN in the backcourt - so the Kings will have to make cap room at the 2 and 3, or pay the tax.

Looking ahead, the Rox don't look so bad - We have Ming and Eddie at rookie scale for 3-4 mo years, Cat is affordable for the term (cheaper than Christie) and we will be done with Rice and Cato by then. Mooch and Taylor are on the books for a while, but they have legitimate roles. KT should be resigned at a decent price. # 15 (Nachbar?) will have a rookie contract for 4-5 years. Based on the above - it looks like the Rockets should have a good, balanced set of assets, either to work as a team or for value as trade commodities, for the foreseeable future. Yay.
