I said best case scenario...that doesn't always happen.. I still think a younger Brent Barry is who his game resembles.

I think Budinger can be a very good player. All the tools are there. Obviously needs to work on defense big time though.

Like others have said, it is summer league, and not the NBA, but from what I have seens so far, I am impressed.

He seems very confident with the ball against pressure. If he can't get to the rim his ball handling is good enough to create enough room to rise up and get a clear shot.

He seems to be a good passer and a very efficient scorer.

He made some very athletic plays tonight including making a basket from behind the back board before flying out of bounds.

He has a very quick release and a nice looking shot.

He really is showing he knows how to move without the ball.

As for defense, I don't see him being another Shane but I did see at least one steal tonight and as for rebounds, he was always in there fighting and he tipped more than one rebound to another Rocket and those don't show up on the stat sheets.

I see him as a good fit for the team and for Adelman's coaching style.

I think when you talk about levels of players, the first thing I think about is the ability to hit contested shots. That's what seperates the men from the boys. If you can't do that, you will never be anything more than a role player. In truth every player is a role player, but there is a difference in the level in which your role is determined in the offense. That's the difference in scola and boozer. Boozer can shoot and make contested shots vs scola can only shoot when he's wide open. Chase has a decent skillset, his problems will be getting overpowered on defense and showing that he can take and make those contested shots. Not to mention, this is summer league which is basically a glorified streetball game.

I know this is going off topic but Scola can't make contested shots? What Rockets team have you been watching?

that's very true. scola has a very slow release and gets zero elevation on his jumpshot so it's hard for him to shoot over an outstretched hand. his post game is very crafty though, more advanced than your regular post player.

if wafer's gone, he should. he has game and his game fits pretty well with adelman. i'm excited about budinger the most this season among the rookies. arizona is one of my favorite college teams from the miles simon/bibby days so i've followed budinger pretty closely.

I guess, he would get a handful open shots opportunities while the team runs high-post princeton offense. This could cover his weakness. So I'm confident that he will be in the roation and contribute next season.

He needs to get that experience and improve his defense. His offense might not click immediately but by December or January, given playing time, He should at least give the team 6 to 8 points a game. ( best case scenario )

If Steve Novak found minutes on the Rockets... I'm pretty sure Budinger will as well. I think Budinger will eventually learn how to play defense, he's already more versatile than Novak was offensively (as far as driving to the basket and not just catching and shooting) so thats a plus. Most rookies come into the league and are just awful at defending players. Once Chase studies Battier, Hayes, Ariza, etc. he'll pick up on some pointers and learn that he'll have to at least somewhat contain whoever he's guarding in order to get playing time.

With Yao, Tracy and Artest not around, thats about 110 minutes of playing time that we'll have available (Ariza will probably take up about 35 of those though). If our offense is struggling to find points early on in the season, I expect Adelman to give Chase and Taylor a chance to show what they've got. Should be an interesting season...

At this rate, i believe he is gonna be a rotational player coming off the bench. You can put him in for 15 min. He will get you pts. So far, i haven't seen his one on one defense yet. His team defense is not great, but not terrible either. He is much better than novak in that category.

If he can somehow develop a face to basket game, like dirk's, he will be a big time player. The rookie year will make or break him. He needs some playing time to develop his confidence.

I think he will get playing time this year. One thing that hurt us, and favor the laker was size of our players. We had Artest, Battier, Hayes, Landry, Scola went against Kobe, Odom, Gasol, Bynum and Ariza. With the addition of Chase and Ariza, we are catching up to them.

Could be a useful player off the bench if we're not resigning Von.

The numbers game can go his way to where he can be a rotation player by default.

    Currently under contract:
    Ariza
    Battier
    Barry

    Unknown:
    Budinger
    White
    Taylor
    Wafer

Barry doesnt make sense to play on a rebuilding team. Wafer might be gone. Budinger's CURRENTLY outperformed White and Taylor, though preseason could be different (think Mike Harris & Landry). So unless McGrady miraculously enters the picture, Rockets have no one but Barry and Budinger who can play any kind of 2 guard.

I can def say watching Taylor and Chase, both have pretty weak handles. We are a team loaded with perimeter players with no one who can create their own shot. This is what I feared the most.
