Who here feels that Cato shouldn't be on this team at all? Who feels that he just screws up the chemistry when playing at the 5?

Not all at once please...I hate the guy because he doesn't do squat for our team and he plays as if he is a power forward and not a center!! Now your comments....

This has been discussed and beaten to death in the past. We KNOW he sucks, WE KNOW HE's Lazy, WE KNOW he's fat, WE KNOW he eats up a lot of cap space. I've read soo much b****ing about Cato i'm tired of it. Lets just let him come off the bench, and let bygones be bygones, cuz there is no way in hell he's gonna change.

Come off the bench? For what? His ass doesn't need to be on the bench...nor be on this team! He SUCKS!! We should trade his ass for some picks or some scrappy player who can actually contribute to this team....

I'm the last one to defend Cato, but he's probablly a better backup center than most teams have. Now, we just need him to be our backup center. That's why we need Ming.

Cato v. Madsen is very different from Cato v. Shaq.

Ditto, Robinson and Malik Rose. And so on.

If Cato plays like he did the second half of last season, he's a decent backup. We're probably stuck with him, so we'll have to hope that happens.

Ya lets dump Cato! Let's let Collier start

Who else do we have? I think some of you still might be spoiled with having THE center that does it all... well he left.

You guys want a superstar at every spot, what about the role players... granted Cato has been underachieving the past years, I think he made HUGE strides the second half of the season. And what makes it better, he played through his injuries and didn't gripe so much. He had nothing to play for except for fans and his pride - and I really shouldn't even say he was playing for the fans because all you guys do is bad mouth the guy. If he has a good game, you claim it was a fluke. he put a strand together of what 4-5 double doubles? and you guys said it wouldn't last.. he has one with maybe 7-8 boards and you're back on his case.

Cato-Ming is alot better than Collier-Ming.

The man may be paid alot, and overpriced, but he isn't no Collier.

My feelings with Cato is an on-again, off-again situation. Sometimes I defend the guy because he shows flashes of potential. Other times he makes me puke. Bottomline with the guy's inconsistency and mood swings he's better suited as a back-up center, which is fine with me. He gives us a quality body off the bench. Name better back-up center then Cato? There's not many, if any. I'd rather hold on to Cato, is valuable, and adds depth.

If not for his bogus salary, Cato would be considered a decent back-up center...even a bargain in a league that's starving for true centers. Cato will have his moments...If he has his head on straight, he can come off the bench to give RUDY more options...Insurance in case of injuries. If we are gonna be successful, we're gonna need that kind of depth.

    Wow, another anti-Cato thread..

nWo.. its not as simple as you think it is. Cato is overpaid and nobody will take his salary. Before he was hurt in the 99-00 season, he was a stud(he had like 13 blocks in a preseason game). He hasn't recovered and most likely never will. Look for Cato and Ming to split time this year and their stats might combine up to 80% of what Hakeem used to do. Steve and Cat are comfortable with Cato, so he doesn't mess up chemistry. Ofcourse, this is because he wont take more than 5 shots a game and that means more shots for Wink and Cat.

Give the guy a break. He showed a little more effort last season. It was certainly better than the two season's before...at least now he's earning 1/42 of his salary, maybe. He definitely shouldn't be starting for too much longer, so hopefully he will be a decent bench player.

I have a funny story about Cato. My friend used to try to support him till.....

He walks in my friend's auto body shop, where he frequents, and my friend asks (making small talk), "Hey Cato, how come you all are not in the playoffs?" and Cato responds, "Same reason you're not! (all rude and everything)" Haha! Man we couldn't help but laugh. We thought he would say you know the injuries and stuff we know about. I was about to ask him in reply, "B/c you work here too?" :D

What a funny guy! Too bad he's not like his brother. :p

If Cato could just consistently give us his January numbers of:

    9,5 ppg
    8.4 rpg
    1.2 bpg
    in 29 minutes a game,

I'm sure we'd all be fine with his being on the team. But he doesn't, and thats the problem. If the man would just show a little damn consistency we'd have more people around here wanting to trade our pick.

Am I truly reading this? A "lets hate on cate" thread that features more people defending the guy than talking trash about him?

    lost and confused,

    Cato has shown flashes
But he goes from Decent Defense to hackaroid
from good Alley oop man . .to hands of stone.
From grab all rebounder to . . hands of stone
From BlOck master general . . to whiff man

The problem is . .. . he only seems o have 1 good game out
    of 4

    Rocket River
    no where near good enough

    I don't 'hate' Cato, I'm sure he's a decent guy.

I would just rather see him on another roster.

I think with the addition of Ming, it should take some pressure off of Cato. Regardless of whether Cato starts or comes off of the bench, Cato will not feel the pressure of being THE MAN IN THE MIDDLE. He can relax and just play ball. The hoopla around Ming will be enormous. Cato can just shrink back into the shadows. Maybe Cato could not handle the fact that he replaced a legend( by default but replaced Hakeem nonetheless). He signed the big contract and people expected the numbers to go along with his new money status. Unfortunately he is not and never will be Hakeem, and we as Rockets fans were spoiled by having the most complete center ever lead our team through the wars and championships. Maybe we as fans expected too much from Cato and he just felt smothered.

Now I believe he is a grown man who needs to step up to the plate and produce. He may be a bit weak mentally but there is no denying that when Cato plays with passion he can be a very good center. The problem is how many times does he do that once every 5-10 games?!?

    Come on Cato!!

    Relax and play some ball!

The Great Wall of China is coMING

Wait! How can this be? I thought if you didn't want a player on your favorite team it meant you hated him? I'm so confused.;)

I agree with you for the most part but what I would really like to see before draft day is a full work out of Yao Ming against Cato. 'Tis a pity it won't happen. It would provide an objective look at both sides of the Rockets' options at center.
