Well you see, everytime I get online, after, let's say an hour or so, I get a pop up message saying that internet explorer has found an error and if I wish to report it or not. No matter if I click yes report or no don't report, my window shuts down. Then, a new IE window pops up but this time it freezes. What the? I uninstalled IE and reinstalled it but still to no avail. Also, sometimes my computer will just pop up random boxes and shut down programs without telling me. I ran Norton and Scandisk, what else can I do. Always with the page faults, I HATE PAGE FAULTS!!!! Watch, before I even get to finish this message this stupid computer is going to cl....
Ok, but can we get back to helping me out with MY problems now?!!?!? I might've scored high on the IQ test but as a artist, not a computer genius. And DM, don't get jealous.
I'm willing to bet he's running XP...when a prog crashes XP asks if you want to send a report to M$. But from your vague description of the other errors, it's hard to tell what it might be. How bout some more detailed error messages and I'll do what I can.
I'm running Windows 98. I'll try to write down the error next time. It just pops up with your blue screen and says page fault occured on such and such program. I'll see exactly what it says next time though.
wow, I've never seen it ask to report in 98....oh well...Thats what I get for assuming..(you know what they say about assuming) Seems like IE is in need of repair or upgrade... what version of IE are you using? Wait, here's a suggestion....use Opera...(shameless anti-M$ plug) seriously...fixing problems with IE is tricky....if you have too many problems it may be time for a clean reinstall. I find it necessary to do it to machines every year or so to keep them running smoothly Tho I must admit, I haven't found it necessary with Win2k so far..pretty damn stable.
98 was notorious for page faults/blue screen of death. 98/95 have a memory leak problem, basically it consumes all of your RAM because it will not release it when you close an application. So your machine crashes. Make sure you have all the updates for Windows 98 and IE. http://windowsupdate.microsoft.com If you haven't done so upgrade to windows 98 SE. Besides those steps, your best bet is to upgrade to windows 2000 or xp (I like it). I haven't had any problems with windows xp.
Is it not true that XP limits what you can do with some stuff such as burn illegal CDs, backup copies of games, etc?
I havent had any issues on burning stuff. Probably it has restrictions with its own burning program in XP but I have used Easy CD Creator and Nero without any problems at all.
I have never heard that, XP hasn't limited me in any of the areas you mentioned - I burn with Roxio and Nero also, so I don't know about the built in cd burning. Basically it is windows 2000 with a prettier face. You can turn actually make XP look like Windows 2000 if you want by disabling the effects.
You are thinkin of the proposed initiative that the RIAA wants to happen, where digital media carries a encryption scheme that must be present for a hardware device/OS to play it... It is recieving heavy negative vibes from hardware manufacturers... I havent used XP a whole lot yet, so I can't speak on how good it is/isn't...I do know that it requires top of the line hardware to work as well as it can. My personal fav right now is 2k...it has been incredibly stable (almost as good as my Linux system) and runs well even on my old Compaq Pent 233 with 64M of ram...
