Hi, I got a speeding ticket yesterday morning and Im not eligibile for defensive driving since I took it already in the past year. Im ineligible for deffered adjucation as well so I either have to just pay the fine and take the hit, or contest it in court with a lawyer. I want a lawyer because I want him to work a deal for me and make me eligible for deferred adjucation so I can pay the ticket but not get any raises on insurance. This one lawyer he could get the case outright dismissed which would be nice as well. I was wondering if anyone here has had a lawyer represent you and if you could tell me your story.

Also, are there any lawyers here experienced in traffic cases, or does anyone know of one? I want to know if a lawyer is worth it and I was wondering how succesful they are in getting cases dismissed usually. I've gotten quotes from $50 to $175.

Here is some information if it helps:
I was going 90 on an empty katy tollway, thats 30 over the limit so thats why I cant do deferred adjucation and I could get my license suspended. he clocked me with a radar gun, and I didnt receive any other tickets and my driving record is clean as well.

I'm going through the process now. They push the court date WAY back, like 5 months. You don't have to go to the initial court date where you plead, but you have to go to the main court date.

I have had a lawyer get my ticket dropped completely and other various charges PI, DC etc

I don't know how they do it. You get arrested taken to jail, you call the lawyer and they get you out of it.

Maybe Madmax knows how that works. :)

    Wow, that is total BS.

I got 2 tickets in a row for going 10 over on Washington and Allen Parkway. Everytime I drive on those streets, EVERYONE goes 10 over, including cops.

tried to do it once in texas. The lawyer forgot to push the date back, so the court thought I skipped an appearance and a warrant was put out for my arrest. Pretty stupid. (I was 16, didn't really understand.. my parents were going on the advice of a friend. Never happened again..)

Used a lawyer out here in Virginia 2 years ago. It was useful.. had to pay a ton b/c out here, 25 over the limit is reckless driving. He was able to plead it down to 15-19 and no reckless...did the job and paid a hefty price

Typically the only way you are going to get a ticket dismissed is if:

1.) the case is set for trial and the officer is a no show; or
2.) there is something wrong with the ticket itself (the officer filled it out incorrectly or left something blank that should have been filled in)

Lawyers are usually worth it. Last one I got was $75 bucks. I ended up getting deferred adjudication, but the fee was worth it as they were able to reduce my adjudication period and reduce the fee I had to pay as well.

I'm pretty mad at the moment however, as I am one month away from the end of the period, and I got a ticket a couple weeks ago for failure to signal when changing lanes. #*%*^ rookie cop.

My court date was last night and I completely forgot about it. Went down there today and tried to wait but it was going to take like 4 hours to see the judge. Will be back down there tonight to beg to get the no proof of insurance part dismissed and for Deferred Adjudication for the ticket. Hopefully the judge is having a good day and will not make me post bond and then pay for both tickets and the Failure to Appear.

Citizen's lawfirm charged me $35. Well worth it in my opinion. They've gotten my brothers traffic tickets dismissed multiple times. 713.665.4977 is their number.

What kind of law firm works for $35? That's insane.

There's no harm in calling the prosecutor's office yourself and trying to work out the case without a lawyer, then getting a lawyer if you don't like the deal they offer you.

I agree. There is no harm in calling the prosecutor; however, don't be surprised if you are advised to wait for your day in court to speak with the prosecutor face-to-face. This will more than likely be the response if the ticket was issued by a county agency (HCSO, Precinct Constable's Office), since those cases are handled by prosecutors employed by the Harris County District Attorney's Office and not city prosecutors. The prosecutors at the DA's office are randomly assigned to precincts, and don't have a copy of your ticket readily accessible to them.

I may be wrong, but I believe the tickets you received while on probation wont really matter if you get a lawyer to push your court date back. By doing this you push the time till you are or are not convicted of anything.

The only date that counts is the date of the offense, so if you are convicted of the most recent offense, the date on which the offense occured is the important date. Kinda strange, but it makes sense if you think about it. You're not supposed to commit on offense while on probation, not "not be convicted" while on probation. However, if the date is pushed back, and the previous probation period lapses without a conviction/adjudication, and the case is dismissed, it seems likely that the new conviction won't have an effect on your previous probation which has already been terminated. :)

Yeah, that's what I'm hoping for.

I hope I can also get a BS ticket like failure to signal dismissed pretty easily.

Have used Sullo n Sullo like 5x's over the last few years, works everytime! IMO, this is the best way to get out of a ticket.
