Not sure I agree with your point about Gortat, but loved your points about how to make a post...rep points coming your way. DD
Battier is underrated around the league but vastly overrated by Rockets and Van Gundy family. If you want to trade Battier for something, you need to trade with Van Gundy's team.
Except the heat dont have any real attractive realistic trade possibilities....unless your suggesting we work out some kind of deal with espn.....
morey thought enough of him to tweet this: I'll just say that the guy obviously has potential and if Morey thought enough of him to make him priority #1 this offseason (even if he did put a cap on his value) I'll wait until the guy plays some real minutes before passing judgment.
he was never the priority, morey is discovering more possibilities as we go. Gortat was never "the" priority, he would have been an interesting piece though
How could anyone want to trade Battier?!?!! Who cares if he is basically Ryan Bowen if he is not hitting his threes?! He brings the INTANGIBLES! Stuff that there is no measure for! Tangibles are overrated. Who cares if he shoots 41% and averages 4 rebounds in 34 minutes? I want the intangibles that aren't on the stat sheet. Like his leadership, hustle, and basketball IQ. Who cares about points, assists, and boards? Intangibles are so much more important.
Not the priority? Wasn't Morey at Gortat's doorstep at 12:01 a.m? If not priority #1 he sure was pretty high on the list.
How could anyone want to trade Battier?!?!! Because: 1.He's older than the rest of the team and we are not in a "win now" mode for 09/10 2. He is our most desired asset, he is the one player we might actually get more back in trade for than we give away. 3. His contract is pretty large, if we got back 25% less back than he makes it could help with the cap and luxury numbers (assuming trying to get under for 2010 is Morey's plan) 4. We got Ariza making him more expendable, and we need a Center. 5. He deserves to go to a contender if a good deal for us comes up. But nobody wants to get rid of Shane.
I love how Morey's overt interest in Gortat turned him from underrated to overrated over the course of one night. Where the rest of the league is hatin' on Pritchard for being arrogant and spilling over with resources, they are spyin' over Morey's back trying to figure out how he works his magic. I envision Cuban putting tons of money into trying to get a mole into our organization, but he will never be able to decode the lockbox!
I think the common belief on the board, is that if you do trade Battier, you better get more in return than just a Gortat.
True but the numbers are about about right. You can trade Battier's roughly $7 million for a Center who makes $5.25 million and save $1.75 million in cap and luxury numbers. I don't know what other $5.2 C there might be out there but since Morey has stated he will trade for a center, using Battier is the most obvious route.
Trade for a center BUT not at the expense of Battier. Battier can be traded to obtain a better center then Gortat. If none is available then keep Shane. His contributions will weigh heavier then what Gortat can offer.
Gortat is a BYC guy, meaning his "trade value" is only 50% of his actual contract, making him a $3.4M C. We'd need to take on more than just Gortat to make a Battier/Gortat deal work.
