Hi Everyone, i'm thinking of flying out and going to the ACL. Just wondering if anyone has been, what it is like, accomadation around Austin etc. transport.. I think i would have to buy 3 seperate passes to cover all 3 days, but it looks like it could be worth it. Thanks in advance.
i've been every year. it's fantastic. should be better this year now that the grass is being replaced at zilker, will be irrigated prior to the shows, and it's in october so we may have cooler weather. if you can craigslist a 3-day pass it may be better. if you're staying in town, a bus, bike, or taxi is recommended to get there each day. bring a camelbak. eat a chicken cone, drink sweet leaf tea, and wear swimming gear to take a mid-day dip at barton springs. life in austin is good.
You should make up your mind soon because all the hotels will be booked. Its a decent lineup this year, should be fun as always. Make sure to take a portable fan and plenty of water. They only "let" you take one bottle but if your sneaky with your packing its no problem.
ACL is a great festival, with pretty good bands. But if you are flying out why don't you go to something like Pitchfork Festival in Chicago? The lineup this year is insane. Or Lollapolooza.
Went in 2005 and had a blast, Allmans Bros. and then Black Crowes on Friday and Jet before Oasis on Saturday pwnd!
Thanks everyone for the advice/help. brightside, i agree with you about Pitchfork & lollopalloza but by the time i organise flights etc from Australia will miss it and i don't think my boss would be all that keen on me walking out tomorrow and coming back next wednesday without any notice.. Will have to get onto the flights, anyone know if the Rockets are playing any preseason games around that time?? Thanks again
You might also consider the SF Outside Lands Festival at the end of August. It has the same basic headliners as ACL, except for Kings of Leon and Toadies.
I went a few years back when Coldplay was the headline band. Had an awesome time there, would recommend it to anyone. Buy your tickets sooner rather than later, btw.
Get ready for the prices on craigslist to drop. Since you are coming in from out of town, reserve a hotel room and get the opportunity to buy a 3-day pass - http://www.austintexas.org/visitors/special_offers__events/special_travel_packages/
Austin is a VERY conservative town. All you have to know is that George W. Bush lived here and was practically worshipped. Same goes for Rick Perry The transport is not an issue at all, as Austin's transportation infrastructure was so well planned an engineered, that everything is easy to find, and traffic is non-existent.
Hey I'm going too... Since we all have acquired taste and part of the BBS Clutch board, why don't we hang out...
No Beastie Boys and No Lily Allen http://www.austin360.com/blogs/cont...009/08/21/lily_allen_not_longer_on_the_a.html Lily Allen no longer on the ACL grid By Joe Gross | Friday, August 21, 2009, 01:01 PM Well, the rumors are true. Lily Allen is no longer on the ACL grid, her slot is now one large blank. Which means the Lady Bird Lake stage schedule is totally empty from 4:30 to 10 p.m. C3 is in the process of finding a replacement and could have something to announce as early as next week. As to why Allen isn’t coming, Charles Attal at C3 declined to comment. Messages left with Allen’s booking agent have not yet been returned.
Not going to ACL, but I did get tickets to the Ghostland show that Sunday night at Stubb's. I would highly recommend that show for anyone in town that weekend.
