To be honest I dont think he is worth the MLE I kinda agree with Morey its just there is NO ONE else out there. Yao getting hurt just hurts us in so many ways and this is another.
Marcin Gortat might come to Houston in a Sign and Trade. Some sources indicate that the Magic will match the Mavs offer. Yet the Magic, have a variety of Post players including Bass, and Anderson. Stan Gundy like to put a 3-point threat in the PFposition, so Rashard Lewis might stay there. Thus leaving the SF position open(with Vince at the two spot).....Look who we got that can match a Championship qualify team>>>>>>>>Battier. He is a great role player(One of the best) to match a contending team. He is also getting old and the ROckets have Ariza to take his place. I love Battier, but he has been replaced(Adelman promie ariza in the offense, but ariza is a natural SF, not SG)
Since we can't get Gortat. How about trading money or Brian Cook for Nathan Jawai and Kris Humphries?
why dont we just play with who we have?? starting lineup like so.....scola/c landry/pf battier/sf ariza/sg brooks/pg ....why blow up a good thing we had going because of yao injury...let them play and see what happens and keep all the money for next summer....jeez....
According to the poster Nikestrad, who's up on this stuff, if the Magic matches and keeps Gortat, he can't be traded until Dec. 15. Post #13 and on from this thread: http://bbs.clutchfans.net/showthread.php?t=171845&page=1 Morey was reportedly pretty confident we'd get him, so who knows, maybe Gortat ends up being a Rocket by December. With this off-season, patience is a virtue.
Screw up? That's a little strong, don't you think? Gortat has done very little in this league. We could be talking about Cuban's "screw up" in a couple months.
If Gortat never develops beyond what he already is, he's worth the MLE. A big man, not even 26, that has some skills, is worth the MLE. If it wasn't for the bad economy, and the 2010 free agent bonanza, he would have commanded a hell of a lot more than 5 million a year.
I think Morey was very smart. He assigned a value to Gortat and was not willing to go over that. The only discussion here really should be if the Rockets under valued him or the Mavericks overvalued him. Obviously if he comes out next season and averages a double double while paying good defense then we undervalued him. But if he only averages about 25 minutes 7 rebounds and 6 points a game then I think Dallas overvalued him and I'm glad he did not suck up our entire MLE.
If we can't trade for him till Dec 15th I say get a servicable center and make a push at that time for him...its only about 15-20 games into the season we can survive for a bit without a post presence...
I think his offer to Gortat shows more of how they feel about Trevor Ariza than anything. I bet Ariza is off the charts in terms of Morey's metrics on intangibles. Why else would he offer a big man 3.5 and a SF the full MLE?
We offered that low because I don't think we wanted him that bad. I don't expect Gortat to be playing for the magic next season, but I'm not sold on the fact it will be with the Mavs either.
Gortat is only worth what Morey offered him, although I'm still shocked that Morey let a player like Dahntay Jones get away. Unless we let him cos he will be going to the Leastern conference
Totally agree with you. He is a decent pick up but trust Morey when it comes to valuing a player's worth.
Worst post ever. Dude, Morey courted Gortat before anyone else, including Ariza. Morey Gortat created a e-mail address where people(mostly the bbs) could write Gortat letters urging him to become a Rocket. Also, Gortat will either be with the Mavs or Magic to start next season. I'm usually not a jerk, but it's as if you disregarded every other post before stating your opinion.
