Are they the only team in history that drafted its own stars and went on to win a championship without trading for any major star? Anyone know who was in charge of drafting the Ginobili+Duncan+Parker trio? Is it the guy in charge in OKC right now?
To be fair, that's also just about the only team to ever win a championship with only ONE star player.
I meant multiple drafted stars (2 or 3), not one star and role players... and multiple championships. Another thing... if Tim Duncan wins another championship, shouldn't he be considered as a GOAT player? and how can anyone hate the Spurs? I envy them because you hardly hear much about them on ESPN or anywhere yet they're so successful for all these years. They have awesome management. Barely any drama on their team.
He's an all time great player but GOAT? Are you serious? Just because he's collected hardware you can automatically put him ahead of everyone else. Wilt, Michael, hell even Shaq is a more dominant player than Duncan ever was or ever will be.
Multiple stars, sure. Your first post technically said "stars" (plural)...but it said nothing of multiple championships. The 80's Celtics were close. Bird, McHale, Ainge were all drafted by Boston. Perish was not.
Jordan, Pippen, Grant, Paxson, Armstrong, all drafted by the bulls. They did trade for Bill Cartwright though.....
So in your view Kobe was drafted by the Hornets and traded to the Lakers? I prefer to look at it as the Sonics traded the pick to the Bulls, who then drafted Pippen, the Hornets traded the pick to the Lakers, who wanted Kobe and drafted him......
Greatest of all time power forward. Its tough to compare the greatest when you have bigs and swingmen. That's why magic johnson is probably the best of the best.
That's not quite true. http://www.basketball-reference.com/teams/GSW/1975.html Rick Barry was the canonical "dominant player who led his team of role players to a championship" before Dream. Jamaal Wilkes would become a very good player later but not in his rookie year.
2004 detroit had more than one star player at the time.... Assuming your considering Billups the star player, Ben Wallace at the time, was the defensive player of the year and was the dominating the NBA under the basket during that period of time, Rasheed was also a star, and Rip. If you mean superstar, than Detroit had no superstar, just a bunch of stars.
I don't understand the hate on them either. The only player on that team whom I carried any degree of abhorrence for was Bruce Bowen after watching him do a flying kick on Szcerbiak - and, to be honest, my opinion's still divided on it. Ginobili flopping? There are too many floppers in this league to single him out.
The "hate" is envy in disguise. Usually when people hate on someone there's got to be a real reason (acting like an arrogant sob, raping someone etc), but when the reasons are flopping or something silly like that then that's usually hate. Spurs have been so successful that fans of other teams hate on them to mask their jealousy. Of course the exception that proves the rule is that Bowen dude, one of the dirtiest players in recent memory IMHO (kneeing Nash, putting his feet where Dirk is supposed to land and kicking Amare in the hamstring is still fresh on my mind). Spurs as a whole is THE model franchise. No drama, no egos, just winning night in and night out. I'm not a fan because i find their system and roster boring as heck, but even I can tell anyone who hates that franchise is really just envious.
