Man, I love this place. The energy since the lotto has been amazing and it is great to see so many people back here debating and discussing and arguing.

However, I sure am glad we aren't trying to be journalists because our heresay meter must be in the red. I'm not talking about guys who feel like they have legitimate scoops or even those who post news articles like windandsea. That stuff is gold around here.

What I'm talking about is hearing things we don't really hear. "Steve obviously isn't happy. Feigen said so." "Goldberg responded 'yes' to a question with the word 'trade' in it!"

One key element to journalism is not jumping to conclusions. You can also call it checking the facts.

I'm as excited as anyone here about the draft. But, let's all try to breathe deeply before we go nuts and start making declarations. Often times, just reading the article a second time makes a difference.

In the above examples, a more careful read would have helped to see that Feigen ALSO said that the team trusts Rudy T first and foremost and that Goldberg was responding to the POSSIBILITY of a trade should the Yao thing fall through. The whole, in these cases, is much more relevant to our discussions than the individual quotes.

It is fun to talk and I'm all for letting the continued trade debate and speculation on Yao's eventual success or failure proceed unfettered. But, we should at the very least get the facts right before moving forward. Otherwise, we end up wondering why the hell we drafted this Chinese guy named Yao when we were certain his name was Ming. :)

Great Post Jeff. Journalists are also supposed to have two independent sources before coming out with a story. Almost everyone on these boards would fail that test.

That's why I'm a little surprised when people hear or see a RUMOR about Steve or whoever posted, and then immediately start on a diatribe against that person, and how they should be traded.

If GM's ran their team like that, and made trades based on every rumor that came into their range of hearing, then teams would change personell faster than the weather. Eventually there wouldn't be any players left, to play for teams because rumors about them saying such shocking things as they would rather win sooner as opposed to later would have them kicked off the team.;)

I'm still trying to figure out if WindandSea (photo-journalist) is actually Yao ming. You never see them in the same place at the same time. Can anyone confirm that?

    Devil's advocate here:

I LOVE people freaking out on this BBS. I love the Ming or Odom rants and raves. I love people who think sake is from China and those who make HORRIBLE anti-Ming websites. I love rumormongering and totally r****ded trade possibilities

    Why?
    Because it leads to contraversy.
Because it leads to funny replies.
Because if this BBS was full of sensitive, politically correct, accurate posters......this place would be boring.

However - Jeff (and the rest of the clutch crew), I admire your editing skills. I've seen some ridiculous posts changed by you guys - good job. No one with half a brain needs racist or obscene comments to make a point.

If he posted here, Peter Vecsey would undoubtedly be unhappy with me. He'd be SOL, though... :D
