What are your Expectations of the person we bring in . . if not Ming.

Odom: The Odom thing annoys me for the fact that they want him to be a POINT FORWARD. Because IMO If we want a point. we'd get a point guard. I THOUGHT we had one. If Steve doesn't want the Pt Guard duties then why all the bluster about a Point Guard and not s shooting guard. It's just annoying and sounds hypocritical to me. I'm willing to be convinced though. WHAT WOULD ODOM HAVE TO DO NEXT YEAR TO BE CONSIDERED GOOD? HOW MUCH IS HE WORTH AT CONTRACT TIME?

Odom's contract is my biggest problem with him. He wants big money and I don't want another Taylor/Cato contract and then my man decides to just chill.

Rashard: Once Again the Contract scares me. What would he have to do to be considered worth giving up a nice center for?

remember. . . they will have to make up for Cato's Woes

There's nothing wrong with bringing in a potential point forward RR.

It'd be nice to have a player who can handle the ball to set up Mobes and Steve for scoring opportunities(esp one that pushes the ball more than our guards do). It's like the 3 guard lineup, but you don't give up d and size to implement it.

The contracts are very valid concerns. Rashard isn't worth a fat contract, and Odom might not be either if he doesn't get his head on straight.

    I'd rather have Ming tho.

I don't think Odom, Lewis, or even Jamison will be worth Yao Ming. Ming is going to dominate in the NBA and it will not take him a feww years to do it. HE is going to put up Pau Gasol numbers in his rookie season, then in his 2nd year I think he will be putting up numbers close to Tim Duncan. This is just IMO, but I really think it is going to happen. Draft Ming!

I know. . but . . .Why not just get a point guard and move steve to shooting guard. . .which seems like he WANTS to be . . but only have the Pt Guard title.

Hell we should have gotten Anthony Mason. He's a Pt Power Forward

    I agree with you RocketRiver.

Don't get Williams and move Francis to SG, but bring in Odom to be the PG, er SF?

Sounds like someone doesn't want to have to check SGs.

Either way, I'll admit that Ming sounds more attractive than Williams, considering the team's needs.

Yeah, but if we do that we'd have to put Mobes on the bench and have Stevie guarding 2s. A point-forward keeps them both on the floor. And it's not like that means Francis would have no more pg duties to take care of anymore, just that he doesn't have to be the one handling and trying to distributing all the time when he is on the court.

Mason would have been a good addition a few years ago(imo) if not for him being a headcase.

Francis needs to be the PG, not share it with someone. He never going to be the great NBA player he could be if he does not learn to play team ball at the point. With Ming coming in and Mo Taylor being back it is going to be easier for him(Francis) to dish in the rock for assists. Francis needs to learn that the easiest way to win is to pass the ball to Ming, Taylor and Griffin(and nyone else that is open) If he can pass it to Ming and Taylor who take ump shots, it will free up the line for some slam-bam-jams by Stevie.

The only title anyone on this team should be concerned with having is the NBA Champion title associated with their name in the history books.

There are too many egos on this team and not enough rings. Our guys need to put their personal agendas aside and start getting focused on the goal of winning. No one is going to give a rats ass if you were a Point Guard, Shooting Guard or whatever when you are holding the Championship trophy, receiving your Championship ring and being hailed as the Champion.

There's nothing wrong with having a point guard who is a scorer -- as long as he doesn't force the drives/shots when they aren't there and he has a genuine desire to get his teammates involved in the game. Does anybody remember Isaiah Thomas? I seem to remember the Pistons getting a ring or two. His drives to the basket opened up a lot of opportunites for the other players offensively. And the longer Magic played, the more of a scoring role he took. But nobody ever accused him of ceasing to be a point guard. Nobody ever accused D.J. or Archibald of ceasing to be a point guard just because they had a forward named Larry who was a pretty good passer.

I think Francis really has the desire to get the whole team involved, and I think he is learning when to hold-em and when to pass-em. The migraines really put a crimp in his development this year, but if those go away, I believe he has the potential to be as good a point guard as Isaiah.

In such a circumstance having a SF who is a good passer is a very good thing. If the penetrator is forced to pass back out, the team needs to be able to move the ball around quickly to find the open man. Likewise a SF who can run the break both as a closer and as a middleman would be a good asset.

Nevertheless, unless we can't reach sufficient agreement with China or somebody makes us an offer we can't refuse, I want Yao. A tall center who can pass and shoot the 15 footer seems to be the perfect complement to a nucleus of Francis/Cat/Griffin.
