This is coming for local media in Orlando, the Magic have a $7 million trade exception which they got from the Turkoglu deal to Toronto. Orlando is willing to package that with a player to get Boozer. I will try to find a link and post it when I can. Man this could be sick to watch Nelson Carter Lewis Boozer Howard Favorite in the East.
A three way trade or four way trade could land them Boozer. Look how they got the TE. It was the 4 team trade that landed Marion to the Mavs and Hedo in Toronto.
The Magic already have huge salaries tied up in just a few players: Dwight Howard Rashard Lewis Vince Carter Jameer Nelson Now, if the Jazz want to trade a player that fits into that $7,000,000 trade exception, that makes some sense, as they need to open cap space. But the Jazz also tend to have salaries that are too big or under-market value (see also: Rockets, the). I don't see this as too legitimate, but who knows.
Ok revised figures its more like 8-9 million at this point. http://www.orlandosentinel.com/sports/orl-turkoglu-trade-exception-magic-070909,0,4739524.story To answer the question about using the exception then yes the Magic can package 9 million + a filler for 2 million like Anthony Johnson and make the deal work.
That would make stuff ridiculous. Magic - Nelson Carter Lewis Boozer Howard Celtics - Rondo Allen Pierce Garnett Wallace Cavaliers - Williams Lebron Shaq (All That Matters) Lakers - Kobe Artest Odom Gasol Spurs - Parker Ginobli Jefferson Duncan Either way next year is going to be crazy.
yeah, i'm pretty excited to see next year...way more than i would have expected considering the rockets chances at this point
Me too....2K10 is going to be so much fun playing, and next season is going to be a really fun season to watch with our young Rockets.
They only have 8 guys under contract and making this move would put them right at or under the tax and still be multiple players short of a full roster. Plus, why would the Jazz make this deal? They want to win too, they're not looking to save money. If they are losing Boozer no matter what, they want young talent in return. I will continue to stress the "think about the other team's perspective" until you get it.
That would have to be a 3-way deal to work Orlando sends out ~ $8M TE to team X Orlando sends out Michael Pietrus? ($5M) to Utah Team X receives TE and sends out ~$8M player to Utah Utah receives two players making a combined ~ $13M Utah sends out Boozer to Orlando Need a team needing to shed money in a bad way with a reasonable PF or C making about $8M But I agree with everyone noting how salary heavy this would leave Orlando, a team that rarely seems to be in the black. Have to consider that it isn't just this year, but next when the luxury tax line drops below $65M. Remote possibility is that they look at Boozer as a one year rental.
Legitimate concerns but the Magic are coming off a trip the the Finals and the owner basically said he willing to lux tax when he traded for Vince Carter. Now the point about the 8 man roster isn't much of a deal with that starting five of Nelson, Carter, Lewis, Boozer and Howard plus 3 good bench players Pietrus, Reddick and Gortat (if they match his offer). The rest of the rosters could be filled minimum level players and unsigned 2nd rookies. The reason for this move would be to pay the luxury tax for one year and try to win the title because Boozer is Free Agent next summer. Now as for Utah they are really looking to avoid paying Boozer 12 mil for another season so they can resign Millsaps. Tyrus Thomas would be good fit for them in the other trade mentioned on ESPN but there is still a possibility of a 4 team trade to make all this work for each team.
I don't think Boozer is an especially good fit next to Dwight Howard but if they give up nothing for him obviously they'd have to make the trade.
When the guy is healthy he can drop 12 foot rainbow jumpers all night long. That in itself would stretch the defense and free up Howard to more one on one. Their goal this season is to build the Lakers Killer team, no way you can double and triple Howard anymore with Boozer on the floor. Plus who will guard him Gasol or Odom? Either case Howard gets a favorable one-on-one matchup so I think Boozer fits in very nicely with Orlando when they have Carter and Lewis on the wing to shoot 3 pointers. Could be a deadly team to play if this happens.
