This board completely overrates Fernandez. Its like one person mentioned that Rudy would be an amazing talent to have on this team and people just tagged along with it...and now its turned into an obsession. He's really not that great.
While we would be fun to watch. We still would not have the size, depth, or defense to compete at the elite level. If Yao came back at the end of the season, and Brooks and Ariza continue to get better then maybe.....but i doubt it
The big question mark in the deal is obviously Amare. Great talent, but what if he gets injured? Besides his knees, his eye injury sounded very serious. What if he comes here and finds that he doesn't like the system and starts pouting like he did in Phoenix? If you give him a mega deal and he flops, trading him away will be much harder. Trading away McGrady just to get back a PF version of McGrady WITH a bad attitude tied up to a long contract would be disastrous. I'm totally on the fence on this one.
You know, the way some people are on here, you have a very good point. Far too often some random caller proposes an idea, the hosts talk about it, and people catch part of it and assume it's a rumor and not just shooting the sh**. So did anybody else actually hear this when it was mentioned on the radio?
Fernandez is not that great. He does not create his own shot and does not play any D. I would like the trade if it goes through. Plus Morey still has the MLE to play with. This team like I stated before would not just stand pat and play for the lottery. Les and the team is proud organization and would not let a season go by and play for nothing but the lottery.
You are wrong. Blazers were using him as a spot up shooter (out of position at SF to boot), while Roy was the creator. But Rudy is dang good at creating, for himself and others. I think this is another reason for his unhappiness in Portland, Rudy is a natural playmaking SG, but will never supplant Roy.
May i please call for the fact that Amare is maybe as much injury prone as our stars?? I would like this management if possible to add players that can stay healthy for once...
Why are we going so hard after AMARE....he's selfish, plays no D, injury-prone and teammates don't like him (i.e., bad for chemistry)....plus he plays the same position that' we are already proficient in w/ Scola/Landry, both of whom are MUCH better defenders. I'd understand if we were getting a young Tim Duncan, KG or Karl Malone, as that would be a significant upgrade, but AMARE??? Don't do it just for splash purposes, Morey! We'd barely make the playoffs and easily ousted by any of the elite teams.
Guys, if we are trading for Amare, that doesnt mean that we have to sign him to a max contract...he can play out the year and we can evaluate the situation then. If we dont resign him to a max, do you realize how much cap flexibility we will have going into one of the most amazing free agent periods ever? In the meantime, we will be competitive and fun to watch for next season.
I think you overrate the Suns' leverage. They are hard up for cash and having a bake sale, and their goods are nearing expiration. Sure they would LOVE a talent like Fernandez, but he would not be the deal breaker. Getting young talent like Landry is nice, but getting Amare off their books so they contend for FA's in 2010 is the real goal.
If that's what you want then you're better off letting McGrady expire. Taking on J-Rich's contract would mean we'd have more money committed for 2010.
Hate to burst your bubble, but Amare is expiring, they don't save anything extra for next summer by trading him.
This is partly true. I mean, Portland is not using him at his full potential, but i think himself is part of that reason. Rudy thinks that he can do all he did in spain, and that is part of the reasons that he was past over to spot up shooter. I think that he believed that he was the second coming of Manu Ginobili but forgot that Ginobili started really humble in this league, playing spot up shooting out of Duncan double teams (and that was it), i don´t see Rudy willing to earn his freedom in the NBA, he thinks he "deserves it". The other thing is the playmaking side, i think Rudy is a playmaker of the size of... let me think.. Brooks. He can have ocassional plays made by him, but most likely he goes for his shot al the way, he is good at it, but he doesn´t won his right to do so in the NBA yet.
What's the fascination with Amare??? The dude has a bad attitude, doesn't play D and looks out only for himself. Not to mention he's another player that's a product of Nash setting him up. Don't get me wrong he's a good player, but who do we have that can run that pick and roll with him and give him the bounce pass leading to a dunk (which is how he gets like 80% of all his points)????
