    West coast bias?

He think we should just tank and put out scrubs on the floor to play. What an idiot!

trevor ariza is going to be better for this squad since we are looking at a fast pace offense. I won't miss ron's spot up brick 3 pointers

from the majority of views most people feel like the lakers got the better end of the deal and at least for the first year or two I would agree ("on paper" we never know what Ron may do)

Ron is a proven 15-20ppg scorer and a former DPOY ariza has not yet reached either of those levels.

Ariza has a lot of room to grow which everyone is looking for him to do here in Houston.

The thing is without Yao and without Tracy getting someone like Ron back would do nothing for the team at all. Ron was a ball stopper, a extreme ball stopper and I felt at times the young PGs would defer to him too much. Ron has an "alpha dog" personality and for the most part it was a good thing for the Rockets this past season, but going forward without Yao and Tracy it wouldnt be good for the development of the younger players.

I honestly think it was a trade that worked out for both teams, I think the Rockets this coming season wont win a lot of games but will see more of the movement/cutting/passing that is Adelman's offense

People tend to judge the grades on trading individually on the players skills and reputation. But it is the style of the team and whether the players that they get have the skills to compliment the team style of play. Ariza is more athletic than Artest which more suits our play. Artest wasn't the top scorer that we can rely on everyday too. We know that. Its like we depend on his bricking to bank in.

Rockets really should have get a better grade there.

The funny thing is that these grades would have been either the same or worse for the Rockets if they stood pat and didnt sign anybody. Don't look too much into this.

Damned if you do damned if you dont.

I don't get this "Ariza would go to Cleveland due to better title chances" deal.

Haven't these guys noticed that (1) Ariza is 24 yars old, (2) Ariza already has a ring and (3) Ariza hasn't made much money in the NBA yet?

They talk as though Ariza is some sort of Gran Hill/Michael Finley/Gary Payton at the end of their career.

I'm pretty sick of all these "experts" continually talking about how he could win a championship with Cleveland or L.A. so should've stuck with those two teams.

Guys, Ariza already has a ring. Sure, he wants more, but at this point in his career (Age 24), he wants to grow as a player to be a potential star. He wouldn't start in Cleveland (or, rather, not gauranteed to), and he'd always be playing off LeBron even if he did. In L.A., he'd remain in the same role. Obviously he wants something bigger: a starting role.

It's not always about the championships like it is for someone like Artest. Why can't they see that?

This is a trade that looks like one, but isn't. It reminds me of Steve Sax leaving the Dodgers to sign on as a free agent with the Yankees, and Willie Randolph leaving the Yankees to sign on as a free agent with the Dodgers after the 1988 MLB season.

I don't remember when the Lakers and Rockets even made a trade with each other within the past 28 years.

    Confused.

Is Mr. Perna saying Ariza agreed to sign, only to later question this decision after reflecting upon the series against Houston: Yao hobbling up/down the court, while tracy sat on the bench, conjuring up a new ailment for next season?

    Very insightful...

Definite bias in the article. Probably a little too happy about the swingman defense they'll have. Bryant-Artest won't be any better than Battier-Artest was (which was pretty good), and probably not any better than Battier-Ariza will be.

As for the summer of 2010, he isn't thinking very deeply. Sure, we need money free to offer a max contract to someone, but once that allowance is carved out, we need to spend the rest on players that will make the team competitive.

Btw, is he right that Artest will make $950k more than Ariza? And, did they seriously give Artest a 5-year deal? That might be something to regret later.

Ariza's shot is still suspect and may be exposed since he won't be getting many open looks anymore.

That's interesting. If Adelman, Artest's favorite coach in the league, couldn't keep Ron from jacking up shots how is Phil going to do it???

Except he is playing under RA and he fits our coaches style more than anyone on this team imho.
