Wafer can dunk and hit a 3 but has little upside. He was exposed badly in the playoffs.

Don't even begin to compare Wafer to J.R. Smith. Smith is the far superior player in terms of overall talent and skill. The only similarities I see are age, 3 pt shot, athleticism and the fact that both are headcases. Everything Wafer does JR does better. Wafer wishes he could have Smith's handles, smoothness and overall refinement. I think JR is a legit go-to-guy who could be option 2 or 3 on a team.

I know I'm gonna get flamed for saying this but JR always reminded me of a YOUNG Kobe Bryant. Kobe in his 2nd year especially comes to mind when I think of Smith. Kobe before he became the Kobe he is today used to be out of control at times, chuck up stupid shots, and was cocky as hell. I'm not saying JR will ever come close to touching Kobe but some of the things he does on the court is pretty special and makes you go wow. If Smith had the dedication, drive, learned to play smarter and be more patient he'd be much more lethal. With that said he's light years ahead of Wafer.

He is a young cheap offensive talent with energy, speed, quickness and passion. I am not sure why we arent resigning him, especially when we are missing 3 of our primary offensive talents. Our defense will be good this year, but seriously we are going to consistantly score 70 and 80 points a night.

Because NBA is full of young talent player...

It should have some reason why Gortat, Ariza got several offers from different teams but wafer do not have any news...

Resign Wafer, I really think this guy can be somehing Special....and I mean really how can it hurt the team to resign him?! But if the Rockets see him as trash and he ends up with the Hornets he will ave 15ppg and make his first allstar game soon(Yes I'm getting my Cleo on)

The thing is we have no room for Wafer anymore. We already have a ton of swingmen in Battier, Ariza, Tmac, Flight White, Budinger and Taylor. That's six people for two positions, why commit a couple of million to one guy when there's a good chance White, Budinger and Taylor can all become just as good or even better than him?

Pretty similar posts and to answer both of you,

    1. We don't have his Bird Rights
    2. We no longer have money to spend on Free Agents as Ariza got the entire MLE (all the money we could spend on FA as we're over the salary cap)

I like Wafer but the LA series sealed his fate with the team: conflict with coach and being shutdown by sasha vujacic. Adding him would become redundant as we now have White and Taylor as his replacements. These two will most likely in the end be cheaper together that what Wafer wants. You could easily waive White's nonguaranteed contract to sign him but the swingman position isn't a need anymore as the center spot is a more glaring hole and would put the Rockets further above the luxury tax than necessary if they sign him.

Wafer is a pitbul and is usually clutch. When we put Wafer in the game our team usually made runs. He punishes teams who play soft defense by attcking the basket, has a pull up jumper, and can hit the open three. The Rockets would be stupid to let him walk making another effort..They have to figure simething out.

Von Wafer is the worst kind of player to invest in. Hotheaded, uncoachable, maximizes his stats (the opposite of Morey's approach in evaluating players), and doesn't make the people around him better. Even money says he's out of the league within three years.

If no one picks him up, do you think we will offer him something little? I mean, if no one else is giving him a glance, what choice does he have? I'm sure he thinks he's worth 5 million at least, but if no one offers him anything and we offer him 1 mil, do you think he will take it?

So basically, Wafer is J.R. Smith without the talent and skill.

On a more serious note, I am really curious to see where Wafer does eventually end up. He really needs to pick wisely, if he does indeed end up with multiple suitors. I think he could end up flaming out regardless of where he ends up because he's a ****ing idiot, but if he ends up in a place like GS, NY, or an uptempo suns team where they don't give a **** about d or people chucking the ball, he may be able to set himself up to really steal some teams whole MLE when he becomes a fa again.

I still think he may eventually end up signing a two year deal with the Rockets for the league minimum (player option for Year 2). Then, Wafer can re-test the free agent market next summer when more teams will be under the cap, but apparently not enough under the cap to offer as much to max free agents as originally thought. Plus, the Rockets would have Early Bird rights on Wafer and could exceed the salary cap to re-sign up up to the MLE amount. The best part: during the early portion of free agency, as the Rockets attempt to sign a major free agent, Wafer's cap hold would only be about $1.2M.

If wafer can continue t score next season and we resigned him cheap he'd also make a real nice trade chip.....think we'll resign him...I feel like we brought in taylor to replace wafer.

He has the coolest name in the Rockets squad so we should re-sign him on a long contract for that reason alone

loved von's energy off the bench but i don't see us keeping him with the signing of ariza... i don't know what else happened between him and adelman but i feel that might have been one of the reasons the rockets didn't offer him a deal

It may be wrong, but it's not so outlandish.

There's usually not much upside for shooting guards that can only dribble in a straight line, and in my opinion, ball handling is one major skill that is rarely improved once a player reaches the NBA.
