He has been accused once, and only once, by a proven slut. Maybe he did, maybe he didn't, but I don't have reason to believe he is any more than an arrogant douche.
But according to some people's logic on this board (not necessarily yours)...he had some sort of settlement...so he has to be guilty.
True, but don't bother bringing actual logic, or evidence, into the Kobe-rape discussion. Like any rape case, if the girl had any sexual history or any sexual desire at all, then the majority of America's view is that she's a ho who had it coming, and a celebrity would never have to lower himself to such standards to get some.
Upon learning the charges were dismissed, Kobe Bryant released a statement through his lawyer. "Although I truly believe this encounter between us was consensual, I recognize now that she did not and does not view this incident the same way I did," he said. "After months of reviewing discovery, listening to her attorney, and even her testimony in person, I now understand how she feels that she did not consent to this encounter." Bryant and his accuser ultimately settled out of court in her civil suit against Bryant. His lawyer had to have been a MORON to let this statement be released. I assumed that he didn't rape her...until he released this statement.
Very true, which is ridiculous. Rape is the most under-reported crime in America, despite being the second most violent crime, behind only murder. Rape victims have to deal with a ton of problems that we can't begin to understand, and the Kobe case was just further proof of it. Our society disgusts me when it comes to rape. We treat it as such a second-rate crime. People joke about date rape as if it is only a minor annoyance and isn't indicative of a disgusting human being. Ugh. I could go on and on. When it comes to Kobe though, he did it. I don't know what he did, but he did something that she didn't want and he knows it and has admitted to it. That she may have had sex with multiple people is irrelevant. Even people who enjoy sex can be raped. I know it's shocking, but you don't have to be a virgin for it to matter when you say no.
right? her consent is hers....it's subjective...not objective. it's not your consent or my consent or richard dawson's consent...it's hers. so when the attorney says, "I now understand how she feels that she did not consent to this encounter," that's like saying: "i now understand why it was rape."
