Anybody else playing this? I just started recently and am really impressed. What perks do you guys recommend and which ones should I avoid? I know Swift Learner should be useless since I will be leveling up eventually anyways. Same goes for any skill boosting perks. Also what do you guys think about the DLCs? I downloaded them all before I started the game so I haven't gotten to them yet. The reviews for these are pretty mixed.

Overall this is probably the best game I have ever played, of the few that I have. Now the only problem is stopping...

If something is taking over your life- it should be something manly like crack cocaine.

I decided not to get it, although it was just $24.99 on Steam this past weekend.

I've been playing it too. Definitely addicted, although I expected that given my response to Bethesda's other games.

Haven't bothered with any of the DLC yet...or even mods. If anyone has some suggestions for good mods, I'd definitely be interested (although I guess it may not help that I've already started a playthrough).

Hey CXbby, it definitely is a great game. I've been playing it on and off for the past year or so mainly due to time constraints. I think the perks really can depend on you but here are a few I found vital for any build:

    1.) Comprehension
    2.) Educated
3.) Intense Training (Although this is kind of moot after Broken Steel's perk of "Almost Perfect")
    4.) Cyborg
    5.) Commando

I pretty much would avoid anything that only gives you some type of skill points like Gun Nuts mainly because there are enough magazines out there for you to increase it yourself. How far along the game are you?

You will never stop playing this game until you have completed it. Then you will want to play again and again using combinations of perks and choosing a different path.

If you are a beginner the best is to hoard up all the perks related to weapons, accuracy and toughness.

This game is all about survival and you need all the help you can get when you wonder around the wasteland.

There was one mod out called "FORGE Overhaul" or something on Fallout Nexus that was a massive mod for armor, weapons, etc. On my first playthrough, I didn't use any mods but on the second, I did and I can't imagine not being able to repair most weapons using scrap metal although some might consider this cheating.

I'm not sure about the other ones since I haven't gotten to them yet, but the Blue Steel DLC is definitely worth it, just for raising level caps to 30 alone.

I am at level 7, but have barely been playing the main story at all. Mostly just been exploring and completing some side quests. I got Comprehension and Educated as soon as I could. I don't plan on getting Almost perfect since it seems kind of cheap to me but we will see when I get to level 30.

Yeah I hear you on the cheap part - then I would say a few Intense trainings couldn't hurt :p I am actually close to level 15 now on my second play through and I have not done the main story almost at all. You can definitely level up to 20 without much of the main story which is good and bad.

Better Criticals is awesome. 50% more damage for every critical hit. Even better when it's a sneak attack. :D

I've heard it a lot but never looked into it since I like multiplayer games more. But is Fallout 3 that good?! How does it compare to Infamous and Prototype??

I just got it through Gamefly and spent a solid month on it. I returned it about a week ago. I did the main story line and about half of the side quests. Definitely addictive. I wasn't sure if I'd like it going in, the only other RPG's I had played were Final Fantasy VII and X and this has a whole different vibe. But I ended up loving it. I only sent it back in because I could see it being a waste of my Gamefly membership to keep it out for as long as it would take to do everything or play through it multiple times.

Haven't played those two yet, but this isn't really like either of them at all AFAIK. If you've played something like Mass Effect or BioShock, it is a little closer to them. Of course, if you've played Oblivion or Morrowind, then it is basically that with guns (well...not quite). It is kind of its own genre, so it's hard to compare it to other games.

If you meant whether it was better/worse than those two games, I can't really say for sure (again, haven't played them). But given what I've played and what I've read/heard, Fallout 3 is definitely one of the best games in its genre, and probably one of the best games of 2008.

I am topped out at level 30 and have played through all the DLC except Point Look Out. Here are my suggestions for mods to get at Fallout Nexus:

Real Time Settler: This is like the RTS game Settler except in the Fallout 3 universe. It is pretty cool and is really a very different way to play Fallout 3.

Enclave Commander: This also transforms Fallout 3 into a kind of RTS kind of game. There are many factions and the battles are massive. You can order orbital strikes and hop from place to place via vertibirds.

As far as perks go, I would go for everything that improves critical hits, critical damage, and action points in VATS. Also be sure to get SILENT RUNNING. Sneak Attack Criticals are just ridiculous in this game - one hit kill behemoths depending upon the weapon you use (i.e., Metal Blaster - nine laser beams each with an independent critical hit).

Yeah, you can cheat and use a lot of GOD weapons/armor from Fallout Nexus. But if you want to play the right way, then the best combination is probably:

    Ledoux's Hockey Mask
The Pitt Power Armor (gotten from getting all those metal bars)
    Gauss Rifle (from Anchorage)

Fallout 3 is the best single player game I have ever played. I have played hundreds of games.

Absorbing atmosphere, addictive 50's music, it is totally American but somehow every time I get back into it, I feel like I am in another world... I feel Zen.

I'm really looking forward to playing this game, but I'm waiting for the fall release when they'll put all the DLC and game on one disk for $59.99.

This was my original plan as well, though a week was as long as I could hold out for. Your patience is admirable. With that said, I am happy with my decision, the game is spectacular. Enjoy your 5 month wait. ;)

I've got a baby that was due last Sunday  , so I've got a few distractions to keep me busy between now and then.

5 years ago, I'd have played that bad boy already and all the DLC as it was released.
