Yeah i'm hearing that too...he better not be... It's not that we NEED him or anything but i've already subscribed that he helps our team going forward. Making Battier expendable and all.
[Radio 710] Ariza's Agent - 'Not a done deal' ? I think this deserves its own thread. I'm on my phone so no links. Some threads on a Cavs website and some Twitter posts. Supposedly his agent was on and said not a done a deal, him and Houston? Anybody listening or heard anything?
ariza is a great role player in the battier mold and would be a great addition to the scola + brooke lineup this year.
we all saw how turkoglu stood up the blazers and bolted to the raptors. the same could happen with ariza. the blazers reportedly are interested in him and are willing to offer more than the MLE. nothing is official until july 8th or after.
True nothing is final until July 8 But it's rare to verbally commit and then back out. Turk is the latest example, but he was supposed to sign with Phoenix last FA period and then changed his mind to bolt to Orlando. So, he has a history of it
I wouldn't cry a river if he walked out. I think the full MLE is way too high for a guy best served as second off the bench. I want a legit #4 or #5 starter for $5.5M per. At best, he's Landry's level at the swingman position. If Morey rated Landry as being worth half the MLE, how's Ariza worth the full? Raptors are going to regret giving Hedo such a big deal. I'd rather rebuild than start collecting regrettable contracts to bandaid our way to the #8 seed.
you are underselling ariza a lot. he's almost landry's height. he's very athletic. he's very smart. he's already a very good defender and has the potential to be absolutely elite. he's quick, long, has really good physical tools, not much of an injury history, and still very young. he's a tayshaun prince at half the salary. and best of all he's still improving, so over the course of that contract you will likely end up with a much better player than you have today.
Landry's situation is different. There were injury concerns and people shied away from that and how the Rockets could've matched any offer. The MLE is worth it for a Shane replacement, a 24 year old. As is, he's already one of the best peremiter D players in the league.
