Last time Celtics beat L.A. was a Bynum and arizaless lakers Now Lakers have Artest and Bynum has another off-season to recover. Not to Pau Gasol more comfortable at his role and or young players being developed. Bring it on Boston
Man this is gay. The great teams are all getting stronger while the weak teams are only getting weaker. Boston: add SHeeds Spurs: add Richard Jefferson Cavs: add Shaq Lakers: add Ron Artest Orlando: add Vince Carter What is going on in the NBA? Man curse the Rockets. I love Yao and Tmac to death but I think both of them had ruined the Rockets. Because Yao and Tmac are so injure prone, they left the Rockets out to rott. Think about it, every single team in the NBA at least have a All Star caliber player for the next 09-10 season. Who do we have that is an All-Star player? Brooks: He is a good scorer but not an all star Ariza: Got to prove that he is but I doubt he wouldnt be ready Scola: Is one of the best role players Battier: Good defender but never shine Lowry: Is one of the best backup point and probably be a star later in his career but not now Landry: Athletic and a good role player Looking at the players that is able to play this upcoming season is sad. We don't have Tmac or Yao. I rather lose one than both. This is horrible. I think that we will have the worst record in the league next season. Its time to just rebuild this team. Tmac is washed up and Yao's career is basically done. Drafting Yao was great but it brought a curse to the ROckets for decade. We will never win any championship as long as Yao is wearing a Rockets uniform....
Do I get to be the lucky one that gets flamed for stating my belief that: 1) Kendrick Perkins is probably better than Sheed at this point and 2) the C's are better off with Perkins starting at center?
Perkins is better in regard of what his role should be, which is as a defender/rebounder/shot blocker. Wallace adds another dimension, though, in that he can spread the floor and pass better. He's a better scorer, shooter and passer. I would definitely still start Perkins. Sheed will get his minutes anyway since Perkins tends to get two fouls within the first 30 seconds of the game.
Would of been better going to Orlando and playing a bigger role, this shows his determination is to ride along to get another ring instead of working for it. But this move doesn't do much to impress me, Sheed is too old to be as effective as most people think, all he did last season was stand on the 3pt line and jack up 3's. If the Celtics start him over Perkins, they won't get past the 2nd round unless they end up against Cleveland. KG really needs to prove his knee is healed because at the moment, his knee will be a problem next season because he didn't come back at the predicted time last season. Anyway, Boston has now become more of a retirement home then a basketball team with the players they sign.
source? or is this speculation - because i wouldn't say that signing rasheed is a sign that garnett won't be healthy at the start of the season. it's just the strong becoming stronger.
The Celtics needs to strengthen their bench and adding a veteran big man such as Sheed would bolster their bench productivity. Like the Lakers, having Odom come off the bench, The Celtics can match up with other teams bench power.
Pretty much. The reason I like Perkins better is he's a workhorse. Sheed still is good but his game has regressed into nothing more than chucking 3-point bombs all night with the occasional post up. His defense is slipping too, meanwhile Perkins is fresh off of a playoff series where he did an admirable job against Dwight Howard.
The contenders are getting better, but it does come at a price. By signing Sheed, the Celts are letting big baby walk, they also let Leon Powe go. I know Powe is injured but if the Celts had money lying around they would have given him a contract and let him heal. The Lakers got Artest but let Ariza go, it seems like it improves their team, but might be a lateral move or blow up in their face. It's hard to improve on a championship team with great chemistry anyway. It's not like they got an upgrade at their weakest spot: the PG, they got a questionable upgrade at a spot where they were already strong. The Magic getting Carter was a great move, of course they let Hedo and Courtney Lee and Gortat go in order to take on Carter's salary. It's certainly an upgrade to go from Hedo to Vince as your main playmaker, but they did sacrifice some depth to do it. Cleveland gave up nothing to get Shaq, well if they use their MLE this offseason and forget about the luxury tax, then they gave up nothing. I still wonder if they would have been better going for VC instead of Shaq. We'll have to see their additional moves and how the team fits on the court to see how that one goes. San Antonio made a great move by getting Jefferson, they also gave up nothing of value. It looks like they are prepared to spend their MLE (rumor has them using it on Big Baby). I think the team improvement this offseason goes: 1) SA 2) Orlando 3) Boston 4) Cleveland 5) LAL That doesn't mean SA is better than LAL, since LAL were a better team to begin with.
Damn a 3rd post for me back to back to back... anyway...sheed is gonna be around if they have to play the magic in a big game/playoff series... He was one of the reasons why Howard struggled vs the Pistons in the past. Between Perkins and Howard and KG...they could give Howard a boatload of problems.
What impresses me that Pierce, Garnett and Allan show up at Sheeds house with Ainge and make the pitch to Sheed to come to the Celtics. These guys aren't paid to recruit but they did it anyway to help the team win. Not sure Sheed is going to get them over the top to win another ring but he can't hurt.
How would he not be working for it in Boston? At this point in his career he is best served as a key bench player, which he will be in Boston. He won't be riding the pine ala Mutombo. He will likely be their 6th man.
