I love Scola but if he must be moved in a trade for a much better player then I'm ok with it. His perceived value (that measly $3M contract he's on) is wildly overblown. He'll get his next year, it's not like we get to keep him on the cheap forever. He is a nice player to have around and I wouldn't move him for garbage but let's not put him in some untouchable category. We're not in a position to say anyone should be kept at all costs.
Good post ! But don't be offended what I am about to say... I think you are begginig the wrong person. You need to beg your girl friend to give Morey a blow job if you want to keep Scola with the rockets. I don't know if that's enough; But it never hurts to give it a try. Desperate time calls for desperate measures. Good luck my friend. By the way, this is one of the best post I seen in days. I am looking forward to see more good stuff from you.
u guys are idiots go get ur weak a$$ superstar Bosh a light weight 4 that i would still take Scola over or a Injury prone Amare who with steve freaking nash in his MVP seasons as his point guard still couldnt get to the finals go ahead and set our franchise back 5 more years IDIOTS
I can't believe after the Lakers series people are asking to trade Battier and Hayes. Players liek that we need, not just for team success but for the development of the young players we acquire.
I dont know why everyone just assumes that we are using TMac's expiring to get a max level player, its not the moreyball way and we would have to get rid of lowry AND scola just to get bosh or amare. We could easily spend that money on scola (or some other 2nd tier FA power forward), lowry, and another 2nd tier free agent. Spending 20 mil on one player is how our team got messed up in the first place. If ya'll want to spend big money, it would be better to use yao's expiring in 2011 that using McGrady's and letting two of our assets go for nothing.
Scola is one of my favorite players on this rocket team. He always brings his best games. He plays hard and smart and never back down. He's like a roaring lion. He didn't back down facing the NBA's best in Athens and kicked their butts pretty good. I have no idea why fans in cow boy country in Texas want a soft player in Bosh. Maybe they like him because he's from Taxas. Believe me, Bosh is ten times softer than Yao. I got another idea that might work if we want to keep Scola on this rocket team... Take pictures, get Morey into a strip club. Make him drunk... then take picture of him and the stripers in the bathroom... If this doesn't work, make him eat a fruit cake everyday...
keep scola maaaaaan. why would you trade him? lose artest. lose tmac, lose yao. and lose scola??? for what???
There must be some rule that I don't know about because I'm not sure how how we aren't around 20 million under the cap after next year. Last time i checked we are only obligated to pay about 29 MM after the end of next yr not counting Ariza. If you throw in his contract at about 6 MM we are still only at about 35 MM. I'm assuming we will take the Brooks team option which is about 2 MM so that puts us at about 37-38 MM and last yrs cap was about 58 MM i believe. Could you explain to me how we don't have 20 MM in cap space in 2010 unless the cap number significantly drops?
Please refer to Bima's excellent essay on this. In short, in order to get 17mil in cap space, we need to renounce the rights to Scola, Lowry and Hayes. Only way around this is if the team can convince Yao not to exercise his player option which is unlikely.
Trade #1 Rockets Trade: PF Luis Scola PF Carl Landry PF Brian Cook Pistons Trade: SG Richard Hamilton Trade #2 Rockets Trade: SF Shane Battier SG Brent Barry PF Chuck Hayes Hornets Trade: C Tyson Chandler Trade #3 Rockets Trade: SG Tracy McGrady PG Kyle Lowry 2010 First Round Pick Raptors Trade: PF Chris Bosh C Patrick O'Bryant PG Marcus Banks SG Quincy Douby FINAL ROCKETS ROSTER C: Yao Ming/Tyson Chandler/Patrick O'Bryant PF: Chris Bosh/Chris Wilcox(fa)/Joey Dorsey SF: Trevor Ariza/James White/Chase Budinger SG: Richard Hamilton/Von Wafer/ Quincy Douby PG: Aaron Brooks/Marcus Banks/Jermaine Taylor fun team to put together. I think most of those trades are at least somewhat realistic
Keep Battier and Scola. They are players that give " Heart" when they play. They defend and if necessary score for the team. Its difficult to find players that give much more then others. They fight for the ball and play within the system.
I'd have to agree, but trading Luis would bother me the most. I just love how he plays and he's (knock on wood) durable, a rare Rockets commodity these days.
I LOVE Scola, but: 1. He is an expiring, so this would be the last year we'd be getting him at a bargain salary. 2. His minimum cap hold next year will be 6.77mil. As the roster stands, in order to clear enough cap space to sign a FA to the max (17mil), the rights to Scola, Lowry and Hayes will need to be renounced. If the plan is to treat this season as a lost cause AND sign a max FA like Bosh next season; trading Scola for another expiring and a future pick would make more sense than wasting another good season of cheap contract Scola and then losing him to free agency.
His RFA rights have a caphold of 6.77mil. To Give a FA the max we will have to renounce his RFA rights, hence not able to match and letting him go for nothing.
I already left those guys out of my explanation for how we would have cap space. I know how cap holds and all that work. I was just wondering how it was that we wouldn't have enough money for a max contract if we wanted to and I believe the answer to that is that we would have enough if we wanted to.
