Probably the one thing that is getting overlooked is how much Ariza will help our transition game. We've consistently been poor in transition offense for the past few years. A lot of that has to do with the fact that we haven't started one wing player that can/will run the break. Tracy, Battier, and Artest are all halfcourt players (Artest gets a couple breakaway steals but that's about it).

Ariza will help us a lot on the break without taking a hit on defense. We've been a great defensive team but can't get any points in transition. That makes it tough on our offense because it forces us into grind it out ball-games that requires the offense to constantly execute for points. Getting a few easy buckets in transition would help a lot.

If we can maintain our defense and run the floor with Brooks/Lowry, Ariza and Scola/Landry for easy buckets, I think we can be competitive even without any star power.

I like Arizas' game, long, athletic, active hands on defense, but I'm worried about his performance under the new situation. Phil Jackson's system have made too many average players look better, and many other teams fall into the traps, offered big contractor, only found out it's the system, not the player.

I hope Morey knows better here.

Look at Caron Butler stats before and after he went to L.A. and played around Kobe, now look at Trevor's current stats, pretty similar. I'd say he's going to be in the 18-22 ppg range.

Definitely MIP!!!! He's going to get 18pts, 7rb, 4a if he gets major minutes. A lot of Lakers fans love him when he was playing for them.

remember when we traded for shane and had a thread like this? i think it was titled "can shane average 17 and 7 for us" for something like that. then shane averaged exactly what he did as a starter on his previous team.

ariza averaged about 12-4 and 2 steals as a starter for the lakers. i would expect pretty much the same here.

although without any other scoring options he might be asked to do a lot more, thus inflating his ppg and deflating his fg%.

from a Laker's fan perspective don't get your hopes on getting any more then 15 a night from Trevor.

Majority of his shots came from Kobe Double Teams (since Yao and T-mac are out he won't get those), and his shooting is still suspect.

He doesn't have the ability to create his own shot, but he is a slasher and will get buckets from that.

Also his athletic ability and hustle on defense will lead to offense as well..

You're all in all getting a good basketball player, wish him luck for his future endeavors.

Trevor can't create, without feeding off Yao/TMac,
it's pretty hard for him to get over 10ppg.

He hasn't even signed yet so be careful. Remember, Portland is offering him big money.

Well I see the Rockets building a team through a system. That's why they didn't want Artest back, even though he was so productive.

Scola, Battier, Brooks, Landry, Lowry, and Ariza have all been brought into this system by Morey and Adelman. And all of these guys have had a level of NBA success. I think even Hayes was a Morey guy?

Dorsey, Taylor, Chase, White, and Leunen might need to shine to make the team. But hopes are that Dorsey lives up to being one of the top 2nd round picks last season.

My prediction is that Ariza becomes a 14 pt. 4 reb. and 2 assist guy. And those numbers are solid for a small foward that gives you defense.
