He wins a lot of respect for his attitude. He's got his ring, now he's got to get out of the shadows of Kobe and other players. He knows he is ready to grow to the next level and will. I'm excited to watch him grow.

To me, it's different. You can stay in the comfort of being second (or 4th or 5th) fiddle on a championship team content on collecting a ring, or you can go somewhere else and be part of building a champion from the ground up. In LA, he was a role player. Everyone is expecting him to do the same here. But here, he'll have a better chance to improve - at least in his eyes. You've got to admire him for that, if that's what he truly believes.

So y'all take solace in Ariza wanting to prove himself? The last thing I want is a role player thinking he is better than he is. Hell that is what was wrong with Ron, he thought he was better than he was. Spin it as holly jolly as y'all want I am not biting.

“I’m a champion,” he said. “And I’m a Houston Rocket.”

I love his attitude and demeanor he's definitely a Houston Rocket! :D

I'm willing to give Ariza a chance. Just because he's a role player doesn't mean he can't improve. He hasn't shown he's going to kill an offense at times like Ron did. We gave Ron a chance to fail or succeed and we probably should give Ariza the same chance. If he tries to be the star, then yeah, we screwed up.

Feigen gives a lot of hints as to what the Rockets are looking for. They know that Brooks and Ariza are cogs to fit around stars - stars they may or may not be getting this season. They're not expecting Ariza to carry the team. No matter whether you're a role player or a star, you should be looking to improve, so I'm not going to knock Ariza for saying he wants to improve.

Have anyone gone to the laker forum? I feel bad for the guy, dude save the lakers on so many occasion, and now they're taking a dump on him. Ariza glad you're on the team, next season might suck, but it will get better.

Ariza has a ton of room to improve on the offensive end. When you conscider he played with Kobe who dominates the ball and Gasol recieved a ton of touches in the post, theres a pretty good reason why he was just asked to be a spot up shooter. I think he has more potential than that on offense, but its really his defense and his ability to run the court that make him worth the money.

When I look at his numbers I'm also really impressed with his offensive rebound numbers per minute. You can never have enough front court players who hit the glass.

I agree with all of this. Once again... maybe I should just make this my sig... I am having EXTREME difficulty going from 1 piece away a week ago to possibly rebuilding. So everyone just bare with me. I know I am going JVG doom and gloom on everyone but its just so shocking. I am in shock. Maybe I even deserve to be on y'alls ignore list for awhile.

What I'm really impressed with is his leaving $9 miilion on the table and choosing to go to a team he really wants to play for. I honestly wasn't that impressed with the signing, but I'm liking his attitude. I hope he works out.

The Center I think Morey should go after? Ryan Hollins. This dude is 7 foot tall and very athletic. Imagine him and Ariza running on a fast break with Brooks. Showtime!

Is he a Restricted FA though?

I was thinking the same thing. That guy kind of impressed me late last year and he is really athletic.

But as a starting center? .... meh

Isn't he a headcase. From what I have seen from him he just fouls all the time and he has no skill at all.

Like I've said before, being a Rockets fan means saying "there's always next year". I find myself numb to anything that happens with the Rockets now. If we lose Yao for the season, I'm prepared for it emotionally. Hell, I'm ready to enjoy a bunch of role players bustin' their butts out there. It's more fun to watch a bunch of guys not expected to do anything nearly do it than it is for 3 possible All-Stars to not do anything in the playoffs once they get there - at least for a year or two.

We've gone from having : 1 star/superstar in Yao and no chance to make the championships to having 2 superstars in Yao and TMac and not having the role players to having 3 stars/superstars in Yao, TMac, and Ron and a good set of role players only to have 2 of the stars get injured and possibly be done for and the 3rd not here anymore. Now instead of having stars and no role players, we have role players and no stars, just like that. Somewhere the star/role player ingredients in this recipe have to come together... I hope.

If Yao can't come back next season, why not be a starter. It would be a young and athletic starting lineup, and he's got a few seasons under his belt. He's decent on defense too.

From what i've heard, Ariza is a bit of a hothead too. I'm pretty sure on a team like this, even headcases can mature and become better players. Look at Artest.

Plus, he played for the Mavs last year. We need to rescue him from ponyland, or he'll end up like them.

I don't want to draw too many conclusions from one interview. What I really want to know is that whether he's a hard worker, whether he's the type of players to constantly get distracted by off-court issues and would he cause any type of locker room trouble. We sign him a long term contract because our front office guys believe Ariza got potential. However only a diligent and intelligent worker can realize the potential. I hope he is.
