Could the rox do a sign and trade with frye using cook and the baseline player? Frye for 3m per for 3 yrs isn't a bad deal for a guy who can play the 4/5 spot. He's a good mid range shooter, is young and long also. He actually played pretty good as a rookie and ran into a logjam on portland.
young players can surprise you. how many years has von been in the league before he made a name for himself? sometimes they find a system that they fit perfectly in, sometimes they just need a chance to play.
I think that would work, especially if the Rocks sweetened it with $1.5M cash. I still like a trade of Battier for Fernandez and Chandler via sign and trade. But getting rid of Cook for his roster spot is a plus.
If the baseline player you are referring to is battier, that is 9-10 million between him and cook. So is portland way under the cap also? They're about to give Hedo 5years 50 million.
out of the 3 guys u said...i would choose Robert Swift, hes a tall center at 7ft and young....shelden williams no thx, gerald green no thx... we already have guys that play those positions better than williams and green
i agree. white is also 27 and on a non guaranteed contract. he's in his peak, while the rest of the team is developing. we could use that roster spot on a younger player with more upside. cut him for one of the players mentioned in this thread. i like swift's size and shot blocking ability at 23 years old. i also like frye's post game and range on his jumper.
White would be ahead of Budinger in the pecking order. I'll bet that Budinger plays overseas next season - very little chance of him making the squad once we signed Ariza.
you think so? chase is 21 and a great shooter with athleticism. i'd be much more interested in developing him here rather than a 27 year old white in his prime. chase doesn't need to be on the rockets squad. they can send him to their D-League team to develop as well.
There are always players out there. We'll just have to wait and see, though. No decent player will sign for the minimum this early.
If Budinger plays in the D-League next year, it will either be as a Houston Rocket (who counts against the Rockets' 15 roster spots) or as a free agent. Even if the Rockets ask Budinger to play overseas, he doesn't have to agree to do that. If he insists on wanting to play in the NBA, the Rockets HAVE to make him a qualifying offer of the rookie minimum salary. If they don't, Budinger becomes a free agent and the Rockets lose their rights to him. I recall that the Rockets faced this same situation with Carl Landry back in 2007 (when the team had too many guaranteed contracts). That being said, I, too, would like to see Budinger play for the Rockets next season.
you're preaching to the converted! that's what i was trying to say i'm for cutting white and signing chase. if he isn't good enough for minutes on the rockets, send him to the DL.
You undervalue my scouting abilities When Robert Swift turns into a monster go ahead and give me a shout out...
