It's still technically possible, I think. But both Feigen and Matt Jackson said its not happening. I'm still not clear on why it wouldn't work.

I'll take the player that actually plays within the system...

i guess i like ariza because he is younger and more athletic
but ron-ron gave us a swagger and you-can't-mess-with-us attitude...

but just wondering, what does this do for james white?

Ariza he fits us more now in out situation than artest would, never really wanted to resign artest though. Tired of all the bad shot selections from him.

Hard to say on pure basketball grounds.. one is younger, more atheletic, less of a blackhole, the other is older, stronger, more skilled offensively.

I think the key issue is this: Ariza seems happy enough to take the MLE in Houston, though he b****ed about taking MLE in LA. Artest, funny enough, is happy to take MLE in LA but would likely be kinda insulted for that kind of money in Houston.

So, it's a win-win. The same money got spend, both players are happy-- and so are both teams.

Artest pretends that he is a go to guy.
Ariza knows his role is to not chuck up 10-12 shots and 2 airballs, because he is the go to guy.

Lets put it this way, Ariza is a budding star, Artest is getting old and was not great in the offense and was too slow to drive like he used to. Ariza's game has been improving and his shot should continue to improve and in my opinion if he's given starters minutes he could develop into a go to guy with his driving ability and improving shooting skills. Look what happened when Caron Butler left L.A. after playing around Kobe and seeing how a star practices and trains. I have high hopes for this kid.

I am split between Artest and Ariza.

Artest was a chucker but he brought toughness to the team.

Ariza can't replace Artest's intimidation and toughness, but he brings the defense and fewer airballs.

No brainer, Artest. Signing him would have saved Rockets the MLE to use on a center (craaaaazy idea right???), plus retained the toughness & swagger the he brought to the team. Ariza is younger, and has the POTENTIAL to play D almost as good (can he be a D MVP???), but no way he will be the offensive threat.

But Ariza is a Rocket now, so I'm behind him. But wtf was Morey thinking???

Both. Battier should have been the one to go.

When Tmac nd Yao are not there den Artest..but if Tmac and Yao are on the floor..i rather have Ariza playing at the 3..he doesnt demand the ball too often and he brings the same defense as Artest

I'll take Ariza over Ron. I loved the passion that Ronron played with but he had way too many ugly shots with the 24 winding down.

problem with this thread it's that the news was already out and the poll will show a bias favoring ariza because we are gonna sign him. but honestly.....ariza is a way better option.......DM did it again. way to bring in another defender. younger, more disciplined and one that can still jump

Wow, how quickly we turn on Artest,

Artest is clearly the better player and will be for the next 3 or 4 years. Ariza is going to be decent, but if we do land a superstar in 2010. I would rather have Artest than Ariza.

But if we are planning to rebuild beyond 2010, maybe Ariza is the better deal.

Not if they were being realistic. With Yao out Ron is not worth the money and he is only getting older. Rockets need good young players and money to spare for next offseason, that should be obvious.

I love what Artest, and I'm not dumping my #96 shirt any time soon, but he's nearing the end of his productive career. Ariza, on the other hand, is just beginning to enter his prime; I'm glad to see him here.

Artest as long as Tmac isn't coming back, Ariza if Tmac or another dominant SG is here.

Ariza was a much better fit for LA imo.

And lol at Artest in studio at sportscenter.
