Do you think we should keep him? I say YES! Ariza is a young player that could use Shane defensive powers. A center will come! The ways things are going maybe tomorrow.
I love Battier and my heart would be broken to see him in another uniform BUT this team is not going to win the title next year and now is the time to trade him for valuable pieces that will benefit us down the road!(RUDY FERNANDEZ)
I will trade Shane but definitely not for the likes of Rudy Fernandez. Portland will do that trade in a heartbeat.
This isnt the time to start trading away key players. So maybe Yao is out for the whole season but most likely not done for his career if we start over reacting and trading away great players we wont have anything for when Yao does come back. We will be back at square one. I say we play as hard as we can the whole season with out blowing up our team and end up with what ever record we deserve. If we're bound for the lottery then we pick up a good player that can make us a contender. If we still make the play-offs the we play our A$$e$ off and give the other team hell.
Yes, I'd like to keep Battier. He is not a team leader. He is too professional. He needs to be lead by someone with more aggressive tendencies. Like Ron Artest. It's sad to say, but I think Daryl Morey did a bad job dangling Battier and Brooks to scoop for trades this offseason. This compromises the Rockets' commitment to them and it probably will have an affect on their passion for this-coming season. The least of what I want is for 2009-2010 season to be a time lacking emotion, passion, and heart from these players.
I totally agree with you on that. I hope trade talks dont demoralize brooks that is....if he doesnt get traded eventually before the beginning of the season. I would think shane battier is wayyy too professional to buy into that sort of deal but who know maybe he does also gets his feelings hurt and dont pony up thinking his services are overlooked.
As of right now, we don't even have a first option. I would trade away Battier in a heartbeat for someone who is proven to put up 20 a night. Such as players in the mold of Michael Redd, Kevin Durant, Joe Johnson, etc. Plus, Battier and Ariza both starting doesn't scream offense for me. It's basically when Artest and Battier were starting, and I didn't like that either.
Without Shane, who would give the motivating tunnel speeches to the team? Scola? Yao? McGrady? Brooks? I fully doubt it. (Maybe Hayes ) So I think it's a good idea to keep him. Ariza plays a much different type of defense than Shane, shutting down the player by inducing bad passes and steals as opposed to challenging the player take their lowest percentage shot like Shane. We need both. Just with this addition, our transition game has increased dramatically. As a young player still working towards his prime, I think we upgraded Artest's position looking purely from the skills perspective. We'll lose some leadership but I think Shane is already our team captain, while Scola is our leader on the floor. The mentality that the team picked up was not only because of Artest. Yes, he was the catalyst that made it happen sooner, but I really believe that the team will work towards keeping this mentality.
SHANE is the man and he has the respect of everyone in the rockets locker room and though I want to keep him..if it helps the rockets to get better with him being traded..then he's gotta go
