All he did was look at Ariza's stats page and count 7 rows of stats. Didn't take into account partial seasons with different teams.
No...Artest is not getting that kind of $$/length. It's a plain old FA signing. Only question now is he your starter at the SG or SF if you decide to move Battier.
Sorry 4 years of little to nothing and 1 decent year with Lakers. I like that they went with a young guy and he is clearly the best addition of the youth players out there so maybe it is a good move. Not going to get anything better at this point so worth the shot.
It's a simple age and talent issue. Artest is on the wrong side of 30 and his D and shooting has fallen off. He took a cheaper deal cuz it's LA and we values a ring. We had no shot and Morey chose youth. Ariza is 24 and his Athleticism, Shooting, D are getting better every year. We have to develop now that we can't contend. I'd rather groom a bunch of top role players and pick a Star to plug in at that point.
haha his player movement history is very interesting.
Traded from the Knicks to the Magic for Steve Francis
Traded to the Lakers for Brian Cook
As a free agent signs with The Rockets Crazy pattern
Very nice. Looks pretty efficient and I'd venture to guess based on his athleticism and steals that he had a pretty good +/-. Ariza>Battier I like the signing.
Makes no sense to not sign Artest for $5.6M/year for 2 years per the deal with Lakers, and instead offer Ariza $6.6M/year for 5 years???
One good playoff run is worth the full MLE? I got mixed feelings about this trade, but i do think Morey overpaid. He's a career 30% 3PT shooter, and that's with all the wide open looks he's had playing alongside Kobe. I sure hope he really improved on his shooting instead of simply catching fire at the right time of his career. Only time will tell.
This would be a great pick up if we had a healthy T-mac and Yao or some type of Superstar. I think he is about to be exposed for what he really is "a good role player" unless we make some type of move.
he made 2 winning steals in the playoffs against the nuggets. that in itself was a huge impact, and what about all the 3's he drained in the finals? I'm assuming you didn't watch the nba finals or WCF, but trust me he had a big impact.
Alright thanks - didn't realize that the contract lengths would need to match up as well... I doubt Ariza would have agreed to sign with us without assurance that he would be a starter, which means that Battier is either getting traded or coming off the bench now...
I think that's what the Rockets brought him in as. They don't expect him to be an all-star (though if it turns out that way, great). They've added a piece that makes them younger, more athletic, and makes Battier more expendible. Or, if there really were other teams out there that coveted him and were willing to spend more than we did, maybe we can use him as part of a trade down the road. But I'm hoping the Rockets can turn it into a sign and trade, so they have some more money to work with. It's seems like a horrible waste to give up Artest for nothing (considering we lost some assets a year ago to acquire him).
I think it's a good movie. Ariza is young enough to get better whereas Artest was just going to continue to decline. Morey definitely wants to get more athletic and this move helps our defense against more tall athletic teams that we sometimes struggle with. This better not be our only FA move though.
