Just some food for thought. If we arnt going to resign Artest, and looking to get younger players to start rebuilding, would it be a good idea to just rest Yao the whole season?

I am strongly against 'tanking' season, but this wouldnt be tanking. It would be a move to keep Yao healthy and hope a full season off will keep him 100% 2010-2011.

That way, the 10-11 season we can make a push for the title, especially if we get someone like Wade or Bosh and a fully rested Yao. Not to mention, Landry, Scola, Brooks, etc will have another year of playing. And if we get a good draft pick, possibly trade it for another player thats been around a couple years.

    Thoughts?

Yeah, He should take the year off and let the foot heal as long as he can.

Yes. If it means we get the number one pick in next year's draft along with T-Mac's cap space, it could be a very good thing. Let's do it. Let's tank.

even if he comes back from the surgery, he's never going to be a full time player nor able to handle the load of a 1st/2nd option. he'll be a better version of Z.

we need to plan towards the future now. when yao comes back, he can be a part time starter.

If he's healthy, he should play. Not playing him after his food as healed completely is like having a power outage, and not turning your power back on for fear of another power outage. It's just silly. If he's healthy, play him.

the incoming PG from kentucky - JOHN WALL. dude is super athletic, 6'4, got handles, defense, crazy speed/quickness -> people are saying the bigger version of derrick rose

now this is the PG we should go after, not rubio. i'm fine with tanking next season to get john wall.

If we keep him out the entire season, does that improve or hurt out cap situation in the summer of '10?

    Do we have a choice?

First, we have to be sure that Yao can come back at some point this season before having this discussion.

Well, I was also thinking. Another positive move about keeping Yao out next season and have him ready for 10-11 season would show us if he can ever get healthy. If he gets injured the 10-11 season after being out the entire previous season, it proves 100% that he will never remain healthy again, and it's time to move on. If, however, he does stay healthy and finishes strong, it would give us more of a reason to sign him again.

I say keep him out since we might be so far out of the race for home court then it would be meaningless to rush him back to get a 6th or 7th seed only to get knocked out by the Lakers or Spurs. I've heard a few people meantion that by doing the same thing the Spurs did in 97 to get Duncan it might be our key to rebuilding fast, I agree. There is a strong draft class coming and this might be the year to rebuild and get a high draft pick along with shrud pickups this offseason and next we would be right there next year with a healthy YAO.

his injuries have been the same injury the past few years. he's never going to be healthy again, esp. with more screws put in the same bone.

if we do resign him, it should not be for the max. the only way yao can prolong his career is for us to reduce his minutes and role by A LOT.

Yao should take a complete year off. Even if he wants to come back next April or May, it serves no purpose to allow him to do so.

If they are reshaping his foot no chance he comes back in any case.
