310 Yao was playing weight was more like 315-320. He needs to get back down to 300 and sign a shoe deal by wearing some MJ's.

I guess rushing back to play in the olympics had nothing to do with it. It really gets to me that everyone blames everyone else but Yao for problems. When he cant get the ball, its john lucas and rudy t's fault. When he cant get a rebound its because someone is shooting shots before he's ready. When he gets injured its cause he plays to much or the new one, he's being fronted. How about Yao telling China, he's not playing? How about that.

So we need to get Yao to work on his 3-pt shooting. Imagine having him camped out in the corner arcing a shot from his 7'6" frame.

That will extend his career for years...

The best way for Yao to stay healthy is to simply stop playing for China during summer. However that will never happen since he a strong sense of nationalism. So to counter act that, Les Alexander should petition US Immigration to make Yao a US citizen lol :D

It's pretty obvious why Yao is injured so much:

    1) The NBA season is too long.

    2) He played too many minutes at a time. Van Gundy used to sub him out at about the 3 minute mark of the first quarter.

Adelman had him out there even when he was clearly dragging his feet up the floor. How are you going to play a 7' 6 guy for more than 12 minutes at a time in an 82+ game season?

Yup... this is one of my main complaints against Adelman. He is a good coach overall but does have some annoying tendencies.

i don't remember him breaking anything in the china olympics...i seem to remember him playing all season...hmmm....i think it was the lakers series where he got hurt...like 100 games later.

how the hell could the olympics have anything to do with it? It would be different if he was injured in october...then you might have an argument

Yao's injury is the price Rocket has to pay for Adelman's punishment on Yao.

I never understood how international ball with the Chinese national team could be much of a factor. What he does in preparation for those games, and the games themselves, just don't seem very strenuous compared to what he goes through in the NBA season.

It seems you do not know much about stress fractures. They happen over time.....

A stress fracture is generally an overuse injury. It occurs when muscles become fatigued or overloaded and can not absorb the stress and shock and repeated impact. Fatigued muscles transfer that stress to the nearby bone and the result is a small crack or fracture, in the bone.

I'd love to see Yao shoot the 3 ball...if he could master it and shoot like 35% oh man...

Yao needs to shoot more outside either way, all this posting and fronting stuff is just physically draining and not many ppl can stop a friggin 7'6" giant's midrange shot. Yao's a friggin good shooter...

Not to mention that other than the bloody toe nail saga, which is really a Mickey Mouse flick, all the major injuries occurred exclusively during Yao's various NBA seasons. Each of the two latest, non-freakish ones happened at the time already past mid-season point.

What's more, the blame-everything-on-China crowd quickly (or perhaps conveniently) forgot that in the summer (2007) immediately prior to the first stress fracture, Yao didn't play at all in and for China -- he merely got married.

I don't have time to do this, but I would like to see the data on all the long stretches (say 12 minutes or more) Yao has played in past 4 seasons. I won't be surprised most of these long stretches were during the Adelman era, in which Yao suffered back-to-back stress fractures.
