Brooks' contract is a standard rookie scale contract for 1st rounders

Good, Morey still shows me he is really smart...Gortat has been wayyyy overvalued since Game 6 in the first rd playoffs against the sixers...He is definately not worththe full MLE and I think it would come back to haunt the team who signs him for 30 mil...for us it would be worst than the signing Stromile Swift and at least he had some highlight dunks...

something doesnt sound right. i thought morey wasnt planning to join the 2010 bonanza. he called it overhyped. a few superstars but almost every team clearing cap space for them. teams might end up with nothing after the fa signings.

oh well, its dm. so we gotta just let it play it out

How much should or can he realistically spend and yet retain the flexibility to offer a max contract in 2010?

That was before Yao went down and that dominoed into losing Ron as well.

You don't want to overpay for a big who has some good showings as a reserve but has not proven that he can handle starter minutes. There are too many lessons from the past here. I think Morey is doing the right thing.

Andersen is under contract with Barcelona. He's not available.

Yeah - I think 2 years at minimum salary is all. If you want to do the third year you've got to dip into the MLE.

The "Dorsey contract" is probably what Morey is thinking about - or would like to keep the flexibility to think about. Pay them minimum for the first 2 season with a further 2 at team option. Hurts the MLE a little bit this season, but brings big rewards in 2 seasons time when we don't have our MLE "highjacked" by early bird rights.

I'd say Morey probably also wants to keep about a million and a half dollars for Von Wafer. We haven't heard Wafer is NOT returning have we?

    5.6million MLE.

    4.3 to Gortat
    1.8 to Wafer
500k to either Taylor or Budinger (Taylor for mine).

4.3k per season (with the maximum 15% raises) = 28.99million over 5 years.

It probably was for that duration, because no where did it mention a one year deal ala the Ron Artest offer.

I promise you that Denver will not let the Pigeonman go. They adore him.

If he became a Rocket, I might cry and not with tears of joy.

I think you mean Chris Andersen from the Nuggets.

Vspan was different. We had to give him part of the MLE, which was around 3 million I believe. Exact type of deal with Scola, since both were from international league.

Brooks is part of the NBA rookie contract.

I think Dorsey was part of the MLE as well because we have 2 team options after two years of guaranteed money.

I also thought John Lucas and Novak was part of the MLE? It was consider a "smart" move since we signed them to a cheap (but more than the minimum) long deal.

We need someone who knows how to build a team. Moneyball is a huge flop. We have no desirable players or contracts. For example, even if we could trade Chuck Hayes, his contract is too small to get anybody worth having. We are team full of players Morey wants, but no other team covets.

Until he gives up Moneyball, or at least factors in other criteria like tradeability, our real slogan is: In Morey We Rust.

Two season into his term and you're all ready declaring his methods a flop?

Oh, and I'm more than certain other teams would take AB, Scola, Battier, Landry, etc. and wouldn't think twice about it.

Very true. I believe Morey has the right idea and plan for the Rockets' future. At the very least, I will trust him until he makes a terrible move, which he has not come close to doing.
