He's not coming here. We won't overpay him and someone else will. Not only do we not have a reasonable shot at a ring now, but we also don't have the excess money to spend. He's not worth the MLE right now, not until he shows he can produce the same without Kobe...Kobe does make his teammates better, regardless of what the media may say...
Ariza is probably a backup plan for a backup plan. If the Rockets get sign Gortat to sign an offer sheet, how much is left for Ariza?
ariza is not worth more than 4-5 million a year max. his has a good skill set that a lot of other players have in this league he just got a lot of spot light this past season playing with the lakers he is way too overrated to getg the 7-9 million he is hoping for. do not want ariza at all (and I'm a UCLA Bruin) for the MLE price
He can't create his own shot. He doesn't even look like he'll have potential to create his own shot. And of course, if we have our money toward Gortat/Pachulia/big men, we'll have no money or little for Ariza.
we would have the scrappiest, most hustle team in the nba if we got ariza ,pachulia, gortat, or varejao. our defense would be scary but we would totally suck on offense. brooks/lowry taylor/barry/white battier/ariza/budinger scola/landry/hayes gortat/pachulia/dorsey this lineup would be sooo boring to watch haha
I would like Ariza and that should open things up to trade battier bc there too similar and Trevor is not great at creating his shot just like battier. Dont get me wrong I like battier but I'm willing to take the younger guy that has room to improve.
But then he gets the Chinese shoe deal, too I'm at a low right now. I just got finished watching the Michael Jackson special on E!. As I'm watching, I see the tweet from Ron Artest. Now I'm reminded that Gortat is a restricted free agent and still has not committed to the Rockets.
Ariza is somewhat overrated in my opinion...he is a product of the system and Kobe Bryant and Pau Gasol. He's not a "great" defender. He had 2 7 footers behind him and the best offense in the NBA, so he could gamble and play the passing lanes all he wanted to. Battier is a MUCH better on the ball defender than Ariza. Ariza is not a "great" or even "solid" 3 point shooter either. He shot 32 % during the regular season, that was 6% worse than Tmac in an injured year...that was also 8% worse than Artest, who took many ill-advised 3's. He had a nice run in the playoffs shooting the 3, I'll give him that, but Shane Battier has had his "streaks" of good outside shooting as well. Also, for a long 6'8, Ariza is a horrible rebounder. He played the small forward spot, which would make you think he would average more than 4 rpg. Tmac used to average 7 rpg as a shooting guard. Lebron averages 8-10 rpg as he is leading his team in scoring as well. Melo averages 6-8 rpg as well. Kobe who is a nowhere near as long as him, averages 5 rpg. Dwade averages 5 rpg at 6'4! Ariza also can't create for himself. If he was any good, he wouldn't have been traded for Brian Cook in Orlando. He needs Kobe Bryant, Pau Gasol, and Lamar Odom to keep him wide open. Theres no way a defense can pay close attention to him with that lineup on the floor. How would he do here without Yao, Artest, and possibly Tmac?? He is going to be the next Post-Phoenix Shawn Marion. He was a "great all-around player" when he was with the Suns...ever since he was traded, he's been nothing. He can't dribble, he isn't a consistent shooter, he's a tweener, he was overrated defensively. Like Ariza, he is long, athletic, and can finish at the rim, but what else does they really do? Atleast Marion was a pretty good rebounder for being an undersized power forward. Ariza doesn't do anything that well besides being a great athlete and dunking a lot. The Lakers are smart not to sign him, and some team will be stupid to pay him $9 million per year...
Why would strengthening an already strong Western conference opponent be something we would want? I'm praying he signs with Cleveland over LA or God help us Portland.
