I've heard that Ben Gordon basically has signed with the Pistons which likely means Rip Hamilton is on his way out. The Pistons probably wanna sign another big free agent in 2010 so why not see if we can get a T-Mac for Rip, Jason Maxiell and Kwame Brown. Or maybe we could even get T-Mac for Rip and Tayshuan.

Do it DM! Get Rip and Prince over here.

I dont think we really need Prince though, so we can look to trade him.

The firing of Curry sealed Rips future with the Pistons. He complained and got the coach canned so I'm 99.9% sure he's staying.

In the event we take another bad contract....of which there are none...which is the problem. You;d almost have to include Tayshaun for salaries to work. I think Rip + Kwame + Maxiell works straight up, but Kwame's contract is up next year, too and Jason Maxiell is overpaid, but seems to be a solid energy player off the bench. They would definitely want back more than just an expiring contract. I don't know that we could offer that much other than a draft pick. Could we maybe also offer Landry and the Pistons could absorb the difference since they are now under the salary cap?

    T-Mac, Landry, Future Pick
    for
    Rip, Maxiell, Kwame

    Sign Artest and Gortat

    PG: Brooks, Lowry
    SG: Rip, Artest
    SF: Battier, Artest
    PF: Scola, Maxiell
    C: Gortat, Brown

Not automatic Finals appearance or anything, but decent.

They are waiting to see if they can get Ben Gordon. If they can then Rip is gone. If they can't they keep Rip. Simple as that.

I love Rip and would have loved to have him, but w/o yao, whats the point? Even with Rip, Artest back, Gortat, and our current team minus Yao will be no better than a 8th or 9th seed. And now we'll have no cap for 2010. Unless you hope Yao has a miracle 100% foot in the 2010-11 season so we make a run then? But then you also add another year to both Rip and Artest (both in their 30s).....Unfortunately the time for us to get a player like Rip has gone.... :(

I agree, without Yao there is little to no point in getting him.

Vets like him are what contending teams look for. W/o Yao and Tmac we are a rebuilding team.

You admit that isn't a Championship caliber team, but are still willing to cough up a future first round pick?

I'm a huge Rockets fan and I've been living in the DC area now for about 5 yrs...Kwame Brown SUCKS!!!! He might be the biggest bust EVER to get picked #1 overall!

Yeah, because it's so hard to buy a first round pick these days  Heck, buying an early second round pick is probably preferable anyway.

The team had no picks this year and ended up getting 3 guys they targeted. None of whom are Blake Griffin, but advocating completely starting over is much much much farther away from championship guarantee than the trade I proposed.

What I know for certain, that around these boards, people overestimate 2 things:

    1. Keeping and/or stashing draft picks. They like to look at the Portland Trailblazers as the case in point for "re-building". Yeah, if you have multiple years of sucking, then make great draft decision after great draft decision, it could work. Or you could still have a team that hasn't made it past the first round, like the Blazers are.

    2. Saving cap space for some prized FA is the ANSWER. Yes, again, it could work. But your going to have to suffer through a bad season or two (see Detroit Pistons currently) and even then there is little to no guarantee you'll get anyone you want or one you do you're team will be that much better. So we could save cap room and sign Chris Bosh next year!? Great, so we could be the Raptors of the south? Chris Bosh is a good player...but it's not like he's leading the Raptors to the playoffs, much less Eastern Conference finals or anything.
