Wow, if San Antonio pulls this off. I will be ecstatic, they are awesome, especially with Ginobili returning from inury.

Rockets and Spurs are my 2 favorite teams

really? wow man, its like saying the rockets and jazz are your favorite teams...

the two teams us rockets fans hate the most:

    Spurs
    Jazz

but yea... that would be crazy is san antonio pulled that off...

but if pheonix does end up signing him i think they wont want to trade amar'e becaude odom is probably playin better than anyone their going to get for him, including t-mac.

I'd feel bi-polar if these were my two favorite teams.

If the SPurs some how pull off the Lamar Odom deal. Give them the championship ring already.

Tony Parker, Manu, Richard Jefferson, Lamar Odom, Tim Duncan....

    WOW

Clearing cap space so you can give Odom $10 million per season seems foolhardy, to say it nicely. Giving him $10 million is bad enough, but having to clear out guys in order to do it? That's expensive for a guy who has the tools to be a lot better than he is.

But in a sense you're doubling up: you get Odom and you take Odom away from your top competition. That would be worth $10M to me, honestly.

I just don't know for sure how this would work logistically without a Lakers S&T. Spurs would almost certainly have to move Manu (or Parker).

yeah maybe they are looking to trade ginobilli to team who can absorb his contract for some draft picks. but even then, their payroll would be at $60 million, so i agree with you that odom to the spurs will require a sign and trade.

Maybe the Spurs are trying to bid up the price on Odom. I'm not sure he is the kind of player that would succeed under Pop, who runs a tighter ship than PJ. I'll say right now that Odom definitely will NOT sign with the Spurs. Pop would burst a vein yelling at him.

Have you forgotten about the team that plays in Dallas?

The flipside of that is that although Odom currently plays for the most laissez faire coach in the business, he also plays with the biggest ego and control freak in Bryant.

The chance to play with less overbearing guys like Parker, Ginobili, Jefferson, and Duncan might trump the Pop factor. You never know.

spurs are just trying to drive up the price for odom. theres a 0% chance they sign him unless odom is willing to settle for the mle.

I'm guessing your 2 favorite baseball teams are the Red Sox and Yankees? and 2 favorite college basketball teams are Duke and North Carolina?

I prefer to just not mention Dallas, they have never won anything and I like to piss their fans off by ignoring them. :D

that is probably the case because I was thinking that the spurs were near the cap and could only offer the MLE to odom

Speak for yourself. Most Rockets fans (including thousands of chron.com readers, polled yesterday) dislike the Mavs and Lakers far, far more than the Spurs.

Yeah in terms of current incarnations and dirty style of play you could do far worse than San Antonio at this point. Sure they still have a huge flopper in Manu and a Rocket-killer in Finley, but they got rid of dirty Bowen. To me it's on another level between them and the Jazz and Lakers.

Correct. Theres nothing worse than getting schooled (everytime it seems) by that prepubescent boy Jason Terry and watching him flex his non-existent muscles and his stupid JET strut.

That may be one of the worst articles ever. Talks about Spurs and Suns clearing salary cap room while in no way explaining how this is basically impossible (short of a team under the cap absorbing some of their contracts, which said team would only do if it was a good player...and is still unlikely) and how neither team can outright sing Odom.

The Spurs current salary is at $71 million. The suns $62 million.

Then the article goes on to talk about teams with cap space, talks about the Pistons for a bit for some reason, and then somehow moves on to Ron Artest.

    Forget the article.

The Spurs have no one the Lakers would want in a sign and trade. Manu woudl work salary wise, but why would the Lakers want him? Some combination of their lesser players would work (Mason + Bonner + Finley), but why would the Lakers want them?

Fortunately, Amare gets paid too much for any sign and trade their to work...otherwise I could see that actually happening, which would effectively make the Lakers the champions for the next 5 years. I guess the one thing that might make sense would be Barbosa+Pavlovic for Odom. Can Pavlovic be traded again so soon?
