Good point. In the College/Draft board there is an interview posted from Nachbar in which he says he "definitely" wants to play in the NBA this year as he sees it as the next step in his development. Now his contract buy out is I think 1 million for this year and 350K next year. The Rockets can only put in 350K themselves for this season and the rest has to come out of Nachbar's salary this season. Apparently Nachbar does not see this as a problem and will do it so if the Rockets draft him and want him this season he can participate. I don't think Nachbar's contract will be something that will be a problem for teams drafting him.

Are you new hp? That's NIKE's m.o. "trade, trade, trade, we must trade, trade, trade. Trade what? Who cares? Trade, trade, trade. What? oeilpere's crazy, or Rocket!!! is lying? Who cares? Trade, trade, trade.". ;) I've been there NIKE, trust me. I used to dork around on realgm all of the time... well, until I discovered p*rn.

I seriously don't see KT being traded this summer, let alone for draft position. There are a billion small forwards in the draft, and it's obvious the one at the #15 will have as much potential and as many questions as any small forward at the #10 (I admit Miami makes sense to me considering the second rounders, but I don't see the Rockets' onus in trading up). When I get crazy realgmey, I think small forward from a team rich in SF $$$ like the Bucks... but I still don't see the point from the Rockets' side.

BTW, it's highly probable that there are issues with Mo's recovery and Eddie's youth that make KT more valuable on the Rockets' roster than he would be to some other team. What's that about the best trade...

I can understand Kenny won't be traded, say, because we need some depth to start the season. "For reasons I can't mention," says Doc. Makes me suspicious of a trade. Or maybe KT does have compromising photos of Rox staff and/or players.

Ming, Franchise, and Eddie will all be max players (prob'ly) so I don't even knw if we'd trade for a stud SF; three max contracts are about all the Rox will handle (unless Les did real well in stocks this year and has money to burn).

HeyP,
My memory's not so great on this; aren't you the anti-small forward, small forwards-are-virtually-worthless poster on this board? Or was that someone else from last year?

heypartner-Kenny will have the same complications with BYC problems that Lewis is going to have if he tries to get out of Seattle. Who goes after Kenny Thomas for more than the MCE in a year with Duncan and Jermaine O'Neal anyway (plus potentially Brand and more)?

I can't see getting the minutes to improve his stock. Look at Marc Jackson-we were talking about giving up assets to assure we'd get him, and by the deadline, instead they get what, a 2nd round pick in 2007 from Minnesota?

I'm more worried about Cato or Ming getting hurt, and us being back to Griffin or Taylor having to play a pseudo-center. That's no fun at all.

In all seriousness, do you think Rudy can put together a zone D together that would allow KT-Griff-Ming to play together? I didn't see much zone going on for this team last year, but that could be because we had no continuity.

I wouldn't absolutely throw out one of the marquee SFs being within trading reach of 15. Griffin wasn't supposed to be around at #7.

Achebe-RealGM is only for 4 team 23 player deals, not simple 1-1, 2-2 trades.

I never said 3s are "worthless."

I said that out of the 5 positions, I'd worry about filling the 3-spot last. That's my general belief, because it is the position tweeners and specialists can fill. But this is my belief especially for the Rockets with Ming for reasons already stated and for reasons Achebe stated.

We can land a fine SF with the #15 or the Middle Class Exception. Why do off-balance 2 for 1 trades?

Achebe,

So, what do you make of Doc saying that he can't say why Kenny is not going anywhere. What are things that Doc would keep a secret. Here's my guesses:

Cato said, "You pick Ming, I'm outta here!" So we need extra PFs.
Les said, "You blew the Rice trade, and MoT is a pot head...I am not letting you trade a clean-cut, hard worker."
Kenny said, "If you trade me, I'm going to sue Jim Boylen for the dog bite afterall."
Rudy said, "MoT is fat and gimpy...we need to trade him as soon as possible."

If Kenny is more valuable next year by continuing to improve, then we get more value back...it is that simple. The BYC issue will not be the same magnitude as Lewis, if it is, keep him again. Detroit played with 5 frontliners in 2 championship didn't they? Besides, Kenny has a real chance to be better the MoT, or merely just as good. In that case, a MoT trade lands you a high dollar SF.

The point still remains that you are giving me reasons to warrant overspending for a marginal improvement. That Posey trade you suggested is atrocious. Just use the #15 and the MCEs to cover the SF position if you can't get real value back for Kenny.

First off, name me a SF last year who was marquee, and what spot did they go. You are in dream land, imo. You are not getting a Butler, Odom or Tsiki for Kenny. Forget it. Who are these other marquee SFs that will be more than a marginal improvement over a revolving door of MCE veterans and/or the #15 pick this year?

Lastly, in all seriousness, you cannot envision a zone with Ming??? If not, can you envision opponents trying to pull Ming away from the lane? Sure you can, so do you want to let the opponents pull Ming away from the basket? How do you prevent that? You play zone with Ming.

Of course I envision a zone because Ming and Griffin-the question is, does Rudy know how to put one together? (This is not a bash Rudy, but it remains to be seen whether he knows how to put together a successful zone defense, he doesn't have college coaching experience). On a side note, how many teams have a person with shooting skills at both PF and C that could pull out both Ming and Griffin? Partially, I think we may go to zone by necessity-we don't have any stud perimeter defenders to hold the premier swingmen in the league like Pierce, Bryant, and McGrady. Sacramento could at least put Christie who would slow Kobe down, we have no one in that capacity, and I think it'd benefit this team greatly to have one.

I've been saying that all along about Odom-I've not been one of the people thinking we could get him without using the #1. Uh, there was not depth in the SF department- the SFs were Johnson, Battier, Rodney White, Vlad, and Jefferson, nowhere near this class of Tsika, Dunleavy Jr., Butler, J. Jeffries, Nachbar, and Woods. Last year, it was all about PF/C prospects with Curry, Kwame, Chandler, Gasol, Griffin, Diop, etc. etc. That's part of why Griff slipped down to 7. Similarly, one of the SFs could slip to within range that KT could be parlayed with the 15 to move up if a Butler, Jeffries, or Woods is there at 9-10.

Butler will not be at 9-10. I cannot believe you are still saying that. You are in dreamland.

If Woods is there, it is because he is not that good, another athletic freak with no shot like Hughes...boring. If Woods is good, he will be taken before Dejuan Wagner. Wagner is my bet for the guy who slips. But most importantly, Kenny could end up being better than Maurice. Trading Maurice might end up being the better way to go, and we want know that this summer.

hehe, I think the Les one is the case, but my respect for Rudy would quadruple if he made such a common sense observation, lol.

a few other reasons to keep Kenny:
Eddie said, "Cuttino if you make any more insinuations about me being a 'project', your next 'project' will be picking your teeth up".
When asked if he'd lived up to the league's drug testing, Maurice laughed uncontrollably for 24 minutes and then fell asleep.
Kenny looks sooooo saucey compared to Maurice and Eddie.
The ability to put Kenny, Mo and Eddie on the floor at the same time confuses Rudy, so he knows that it must mean strangely effective matchup problems for our opponents.

If you were being serious, then here is my two cents. I dislike Yasser Arafat and I dislike Ariel Sharon. Actually, I probably dislike Sharon a lot more than I dislike Arafat. As long as Sharon is in power in Israel, there will never be peace in the Middle East.

I think we as Americans really have to rethink our MidEast policy. Many of my colleagues and I concur on the fact that our MidEast policy is very one-sided towards Israel. Israel is America's ally and that is great, but if we want to be a true and just broker for peace, then we have to be impartial in the matter and we have to condemn ALL wrongdoing. An example of what I mean is what happened in Jenin. Our government tried to put its foot down, but Sharon paid no attention to what America wanted. They were very reluctant to let impartial international envoys visit Jenin, and we were fine with that!! In my opinion, there is no difference between Sharon prohibiting envoys in Jenin and Saddam Hussein prohibiting envoys in Baghdad. Common sense tells you that both have something to hide. Our government should have put its foot down and nailed Sharon on that.

In terms of a Palestinian state, I think that it is a good idea. If an autonomous state is formed in the West Bank, then the people of the land, both Jews and Arabs, will be able to live in peace. The Arabs will not have to worry about Israel blocking off aid, building settlements, and shooting at women and children. Int he same token, the Jews will not have to worry about Hamas, Hezbollah, and the scores of other groups with the goal of terror. Arafat is a joke for a leader, no doubt. But it is obvious that the people of this land will not be able to live side by side. So the state is the best option.

Rudy has said that we need a 5 and a "natural small forward". On the offensive end we clicked when Walt played great, hitting 3's driving, slashing and dishing off for easy baskets. I know that it didn't happen often but it did show how smooth the team should look. If we could get a player that gives us that consistently it would make us a more well rounded unit.
I know Kenny kicked butt for us ,but like they said, to get something you need to give up something. Unfortunately for Kenny, he has the most trade value. MoT and Eddie can handle the PF position. If Kenny is here it may cut into Eddies minutes and stunt his growth.

I know some people may have insight that i or others do not have, but some things just defy logic and conventional wisdom. Kenny Thomas trade value is as high as it ever will be right now. He put up solid numbers on a sorry team but at least teams have an idea on how and where he can score and rebound. If the Rockets pass on the chance to trade him to possibly move up or acquire a better 3 man it doesn't make sense. In all probability, if we don't trade Kenny, he will be similar to what Marc Jackson went through. Kenny knows he needs playing time to get a decent contract from other teams and that might be a problem for him here. If he doesn't get gametime or enough of it, will he become disgruntled? I'm not a selfish person, but I think i'll be pissed if i only played about 10-15 minutes in a contract yr. All of this is moot if the Rockets somehow find takers on taylor and resign Thomas as a backup to Griffin.

Another thing is the Amare drafting. This is getting to the point portland has had for yrs. Its maybe reason why they can't get over the top, but its also the reason why they have never been in the lotto. Its true you can't have too many good players, but if you have too many that plays the same position and are all young, then you have a problem. Personally, i can't see him making it past Milw at 13. They have some young all stars already and if it takes him 2 or 3 yrs to be a force at the 4 spot, they can and should still make the playoffs in the east. They are the most talented team in the east by far.

Its still possible that the scenerios Doc laid out are possible, i just don't see how either makes this team better. More talented yes, better equiped to make the playoffs and beyond, no.

I would have to agree with this. I nearly fell out of my chair when I read that trade. Nike... dude... I love your posts; don't turn on me now! :(

The Rox most glaring need are the 5 and 3...with this in mind and the fact that we have depth at the 4 , it would seem crazy to draft Stoudemire over Nachbar. Unless, other moves are in the works to land a 3 in free agency or through trades. It also might be a ploy to let it seem that Nachbar is fading a little, so in reality, he might be there.

I have a buddy who has seen Nachbar consisently play and he says Nachbar is a better fit for the Rox over Peja because Nachbar is stronger, bigger and can go to the hole more than Peja (though is jumpshot is not as pure as Peja...he is still one of the best shooters in the draft). He says Nachbar will immediately help the Rockets because he brings the perimeter game combined with other threats...something we have not had since Francis got here.

Everything I am reading says Nachbar is a good fit for us should he fall to 15. But, if we draft Nachbar, is it true that he won't be available until next season?

NJ Rocket:

I read that Nachbar might not play in the NBA next season if selected #15 and below because he would basically be playing for free. He would owe his team in Europe nearly his entire salary at or around the #15 pick.

just a question, newbie here but rockets fan none the less.. Why all the talk about trading?? Why would we trade up in the draft?? #15 is a liable pick in this years deep draft. Everything I've read on Nachbar sems to be the man and Would simply be happy with #1Ming and #15Nachbar. Also, we still owe memphis a pick from the Franics fiasco.. so I ask again.. why would we trade our 15th pick and KT for higher pick and some scrub only to potentially have West take that pick away from us:confused: Personally, even if we do get Nachbar.. or Amare I would be cautious of west nabbing them too..anyway, grreat site here.. and lots of interesting threads to say the least..
