http://weblogs.newsday.com/sports/basketball/knicks/blog/2009/06/2_minutes_to_midnight.html Curry and Mobley for Mac...
I guess Eddy Curry would help balance the team plane in Yao's absence... but what else doe he do? Economically, this would save the Rockets some money in the upcoming year, and I think some relatively small room under the luxury tax limit since, I think Mobley's contract would still count as a part of the team salary upon a trade, but his salary combined with Curry's is smaller. The reasonable motivation to do it is to save enough money (in terms of tax as well as other things) to pay Ron and another FA (like, say, Gortat for the MLE) in the upcoming year. It would also hurt the Rockets potential cap space for 2010, assuming they are thinking about using cap space to get a free agent, but maybe that is not what they are striving for. And who knows, Curry might pan out (lol)... does that mean they are covering their bases on the possibility of Yao's career ending?
This trade, or a variation of it with Larry Hughes instead of Curry, has been floating around for the past month. This blurb tries to paint it like Morey is the one who's pursuing the deal when more likely it's the other way around. I don't think Morey is going to bite.
Use your average size brain.......... sorry for being blunt, but there's no way Daryl would do such a deal, EVEN IF he was on crack. That's how smart he is and how ridiculous this deal is.
Sounds more like blogger speculation to me. From the article: Another thing you can expect is for the Knicks to keep in touch with the Rockets about the Tracy McGrady situation, especially if the reports about Yao Ming are accurate to the point that his ankle injury could cause him to miss extended time. Would Rockets GM Daryl Morey consider Eddy Curry in a deal for McGrady? I'm told that would be a conversation starter. Perhaps Curry ($10.5M) and Cuttino Mobely ($9M, 80 percent insured) would be worthwhile for the Rockets. For the Knicks, this scenario for McGrady ($23M expiring) would be a win-win mainly because you can move Curry's money off the 2010 ledger (and maybe result in Lee's contract having less of an impact) and though you'd likely have to wait a month into the season for him (shoulder and knee), he could show up determined to earn another big contract.
Morey should know better than that. When will the Knicks understand what "No" means? We dont want their trash nor do I see us trying to help them. Just because Isaiah Thomas and fomer co. screwed them up doesnt mean they gotta screw everyone else up. I mean do we want this guy?
Well, a lot of Cat's deal is paid by insurance, but still... you'd need to be 1000% positive that T-Mac had nothing left to give you. No way we do this without getting a 1st as well.
i'd rather let tmac expire...wtf, that's a ******** awful package..holy ****. that's a joke..this can't be true, morey is near GOD status with us, he's lose all that with this deal.
This is what real GM says: This is what the "source" says: http://weblogs.newsday.com/sports/basketball/knicks/blog/2009/06/2_minutes_to_midnight.html Looks to me like RealGM took a NYC blogger's speculation and turned it into "Morey is interested". I'm sick of this crap.
T-Mac and Brian Cook for Eddy Curry, Larry Hughes and Jared Jeffries. Eddy Curry, if healthy, can actually be pretty decent. Larry Hughes could replace Von Wafer. Jared Jeffries is 6-11 so he gives us height. C: Yao (if healthy)/Curry/Hayes PF: Scola/Landry/Dorsey SF: Battier/Jeffries/White/Buddinger SG: Artest/Hughes/Taylor PG: Brooks/Lowry/Barry and if Yao is hurt then Jeffries moves to center
