That's his job. Ya'll make it seem like Yao has to be in the NBA. As a professional player, we expect you to play 82 games. Simple as that. (And he gets paid for it - more than he gets paid for playing in FIBA "casual" game)

    LAZY journalism!!!

As a news writer I am sickened by this reporting. To quote a SINA posting as a source for a story is complete laziness. Not to mention stealing quotes from other reporters. He may as well have used twitter to report this piece of crap.

Yao is a max contract player who was offered a max extension several times and he refused so now the Rockets want to pay him even less money?

Wake the f--k up you commie morons. Les Alexander just dropped 6 MILLION for 3 draft picks who may not even play for him next season and you think he wants to bargain with Yao?

Some genius up there running the communist labor/basketball camps.

What is there to be confused about? Do you actually believe Chinese media and fans over world-reknown doctors? If so, I feel sorry for you.

If Yao didn't believe the doctors then he wouldn't be traveling all over to get more opinions.

It doesn't surprise me at all that the Chinese officials think this is the case.

I find it hilarious that anybody would actually believe this trash, which turns out to be nothing more than sensationalist spin by AFP/Yahoo.

Here is the original Sina.com article, along with the direct quote of Hu Jiashi, Vice Director of the Basketball Management Centre, right from the horse's mouse:

    http://sports.sina.com.cn/cba/2009-06-30/12584458592.shtml

Apparently what happened was a Sina reporter asked Hu Jiashi (so called Chinese basketball official) whether Yao's injury is career ending, Hu indicated that Team Yao/Erik Zhang contacted him and informed him that it is pre-mature to talk about Yao's retirement.

He also state Team Yao informed that though Yao's injury is serious, "But they did not say that he would miss the coming NBA season, nor did they say he would miss the (2010) World Championships," which incidently is the quote in the Yahoo article above, taken out of context.

He also said that the CBA is very concerned with Yao's injury, wishes him a speedy recovery and approved him missing the 2009 Asian Games.

So it turns out to be nothing more than a spin by AFP/Yahoo. They even threw anecdotal evidence from a nutty conspiracy theorist on Sina Blog (not even the "news" site) for good measure.

Yeah, somebody's credibility definitely is tarnish from all this. Too bad it ain't "Chinese basketball official" or Sina. What I find very sad about the whole thing is that Sina, a tabloid site, came out of this one spelling better than AFP and Yahoo.

But this concludes the current interruption, we now return you to your regularly schedule programming of believing in the allegedly superiority/objectivity of American news services.

Btw, the only contract/money issues regarding Yao from Sina is that the Rockets now have two dead-weight contracts in TMac and Yao and that its situation went from being difficult to crippling.

Along with of course, the normal speculation whether the Rockets will renew his contract.

If the Rockets were releasing the information it may be sabotage, but for a doctor to release bad information would be unethical and illegal. This is not China: Doctors are not just tools.

I believe the release of Yao's injury was to try to reduce the amount of physical burden on his foot. If the rockets can keep Yao from playing with China, the rockets will be much better with a healthier Yao come next season.

The release of this news is probably to scare China from making Yao play in the national team, so Yao's success in the NBA will be much greater.

But of course, I don't think China will allow that to happen.

Pics, audio, video, Yao Ming autographed jersey, artists sketch of the event (inclusion of flabbergasted faces of various spectators preferred, though not required), and fingerprinting of ball/court used or IT DIDN'T HAPPEN!

Yes, because what "some random guy on a fan board" thinks must be true. If a story comes out in China tomorrow that Lebron is signing for the MLE with Houston citing a "poster on a Houston Rockets fan board", I'm sure you'd believe it too.

What does any of this have to do with communism? Seriously, get a clue. If every time you see China you think of "communism" you're on the same intellectual plane as Pavlov's dogs.

China, now there's a relialbe source. Trying to bring down Carl Landry's value is one thing. Bringing down the value of your franchise player is just stupid if you are trying to trade Tracy for a max type player and trying to convince them to sign a deal based on being here with Yao to win a championship.

This is actually a possibility. That's how Morey handled Landry's case last summer. The timing and yao's unconciousness of the soreness definitely stand out to be question marks.

Yep,they're blatantly thinking that Rockets organization was just trying the hardest to concede the people in China?I don't give a **** what the said on Sina.com,so unrealistic comments on the board.

Get well Yao,I just can't believe all those god'damn Chinese Officials at this moment saying kinda words expressing disbelief on this devastating news, why?Nationalism had cost Yao heaps, even his career right now, what else do they want,so greedy and want sooooo much from Yao.
