"...Or that he is limited in training camp but starts the season and has another All-Star campaign. Or misses the first 25 games of the season but leads them to another strong playoff run. Or he misses the first 50 and wins a title."

    Hoping for the latter

I'd say the track record of injuries the last few years speaks for itself. Specialists? That doesn't mean they know that much about nutritional aids for healing. When was the last time you visited a physician and he did much except prescribe some sort of drug? T-mac had seen all sorts of "specialists" about his back spasms, to no avail. Are you somehow affiliated with the AMA? ;)

Besides, even the mention of a career ending injury is not something to "lighten up" about.

I'm not a doctor, but I have a hard time seeing how Yao's injury can be exaggerated. It's a definite possibility he could miss all of next season. It's also a definite possibility (or likelihood) he will be injured again if/when he returns. The best case scenario is Yao plays part of the season, limited minutes per game and takes a loooong while to get into shape and find his timing. Is it worth it? For the sake of preserving his career, he should probably take next season off after surgery and give it one final go starting in 2010.

Whatever happens, I don't imagine Yao will be playing more than 20-25 mins/game the rest of his (probably short) career.

Somebody tell me why I'm being overly negative. I want to feel better about this. I know Big Z's story already but that's a true long shot for Yao.

We want Yao to be healthy for several reasons.
    1. Salvage our season, unless people want us to tank
    2. Plain good guy
    3. Get better trade value

I hope he is healthy to have a decent season, so we can get a trade offer. I don't want Rockets to pay max dollars or see us get nothing in return.

^ i don't believe anything a word bucher says anymore once he says he'll give up reporting if kobe wears a laker jersey again.

surgery will eventually limits yao anyways. and most likely, he won't be fit to play big minutes or every game like we want him to anyways. it's best that we can get some good info regarding yao and try to trade him also, along with moving mcgrady for maybe a superstar or 1-2 all-stars (if we don't want to fully rebuild)

Since it's completely broken, the chances of it healing with immobilization is highly remote. Surgery on a rebroken foot is no guarantee of success either.

Here's to hoping that McGrady is shipped out in the off-season.

I think I'm starting to understand why the board is so bi-polar. It's because the news with our stars is so bi-polar.

Why would it? The teams that would take McGrady are in it because of financial difficulties. This would not change their situation. If anything, it makes Morey less likely to take a marginal deal.

Reports from China stated that the CBA has no doubt that Yao will play in the World Championships in 2010.

    CBA: “但并没有提到可能影响下个赛季NBA比赛,更谈不上缺席世锦赛,相信他的伤情还没有到达这样的程度。”

Translation: "The report did not mention whether the new injury will impact his new NBA season, hence we shouldn't talk about him missing the FIBA World Championships, I believe his injury has not reached such extreme circumstances."

Looks like CBA will force Yao to play no matter what. I have to say I'm disappointed with the lack of human touch from the CBA

Never thought Morey is any good. In fact he is pretty sucky.

He got burned with not trading TMac last off-season. But he underestimated the team by trading Rafer Alston. One better chance and one good chance to win something were passed away.

Now he is either in panic mode if Yao's status is really bad, or he is lowballing Yao to sign with the team or scare other teams away. Whatever is true, he will suck for days to come for the Rockets.

People. You can whistle past the graveyard and think Yao's injury is not serious if you want, but you'll only be hurt when the truth comes out.

Because it's his job to diagnose and predict injuried?

Rafer Alston would have been the difference against the Lakers? Sure worked for the Orlando Magic.

Where did you any info as to whataever "mode" he's in. The only people obviously in "panic mode" are panic monkeys on this board.

Hey don't get too excited. I mean sure, they know something but at this stage Rockets' doctor is a more reliable source. And he said it is really serious...and it is getting worse.

I'd also keep in mind that a doctor might not realise how much a throw away line would mean.

If someone asks if it could lead to his retirement....yeah....it might. But you could say that about pretty much any injury that wasn't healing all that quickly.

I've not been one to dog the medical staff, but WTF is going on with Clanton going public with these results against the Rockets and Yao's wishes?

Didn't have time or interest to read any posts in this thread. Yao is a 7'6" player with a strong established history of foot problems. If his most recent foot problem hasn't shown any signs of improvement since the playoffs, that's serious. Combine that with the rumors of what the Rockets have been pursuing personnel wise and you've got your answer. Getting a "warm fuzzy" about Yao ever returning as an impact player is an excercise in self-deception.

Then again...we've got plenty of posters who don't understand the severity of micro-fracture surgery.
