it's actually yao's fault. yao wanted to play for china in summer. he didn't have to play if he didn't want to. what could cba do if yao declined to play? not much. they might destroy yao in china but at the very least they cant take away yao's life in the us.

LOL you do realize Yao played at least five times as many minutes in the NBA than he did in the CBA right?

You are an idiot if you think that is a real Chinese person who typed that. The intentionally wrong grammar and syntax is so obvious. Native Chinese speakers do not make those types of mistakes, and the mistakes that they do make--are nowhere to be found in his post.

If you want to blame this mess on someone, you can start with Rudy. He should have traded the pick for Lamar Odom when he had the chance. He could have filled our needs at the point. And Steve Francis would possibly still be relevant.

China Basketball National Team still desired Yao could play for China in 2012 London Olympic.   I think they must be very disappointed after getting this news.

Or blame it on Steve FRancis himself. IF he's not a first class idiot for missing a game because of SuperBowl, he should still he here.

considering that the roster moves would be totally different for a Yao-less team...you really cant say that with absolute certainty.

definitely not with enough certainty to take that kind of tone with an excellent poster like tcabb.

People are saying that chinas games weren't that taxing, but you have to take into account the brutal practice schedules everyone is put through each summer. Yao isnt just going over and playing a few games for the chinese team, he fully committed his body to help his team.

In the end, this decision comes on yao. Rockets fans aren't happy because Yao never said no and kept playing every summer. Chinese fans aren't happy because their global icon is potentially about to break down. In the end, yao had to make the decision about whats more important. To me, a Rockets fan, the choice is clear. Getting paid millions of dollars to play basketball for Houston should be a priority over getting the beatdown to training for games against the japanese basketball team.

For Yao, it seems like love of country>love of self. Thats admirable, but it might lead to his demise one day (I dont think that the sky is falling right now, just wait and see what happens with yao instead of saying hes going to retire).

And if you are saying that playing at fonde can compete with the cba training and international games schedule, then you're only fooling yourself.

We can't impose the total blame on CBA. It's natural for the Chinese national basketball team to recruit the best Chinese player to play for the Olympic Game in which they really valued, just like the US national team wanted their superstars to "walk on the road to redeem" as well. The only difference is that the US case is more flexible cause it is never in short of superstars while Yao Ming is the only hope for the Chinese team to make a breakthrough in such a grand event.

Here's something that Houston Rockets fans really have to realize: Yao Ming is Team China first and a Houston Rocket second.

I'm disappointed to see so many ignorant people in this forum.

Seriously, this many pointing their fingers?

For the record, the Rockets were FULLY aware of China's demand when Yao was drafted. Rockets knew China demanded Yao to play in important Chinese Sports events.

Yao is China's best athlete in Chinese history, and there won't be one more popular or better than him in a very long time.

Imagine if America only had Michael Jordan, a man who garner so much attention and media, but the rest of their athletes are below average. Then Michael Jordan goes to play in some other country and refuses to play for America in olympics, FIBA etc.

I'm not saying China is not to blame, but Rockets knew the requirements and consequences. If your gun accidentally goes off and kills somebody, you can't expect to blame the guy who sold you the gun.
