I agree with you Cab. So it seems Morey knows as well hence pulling out all stops for Rubio

    positive note...
    4. Houston: I was surprised several years ago when I learned how many players league-wide spend their offseasons living and working out in this steamy city. Now that the Rockets are loaded and with management that can explain in intricate detail why you're the perfect fit for their system, it's an even greater place to be in-season.

Portland has created the model of success for "blowing it up and starting all over."

Only problem is that the Rockets must be able to find a player like Roy in the draft, which might be damn near impossible.

Stop-gap measures won't do anything beyond the next 2 years or so.

Now the Rubio rumors all make sense. Who on the roster has any significant all-star caliber upside?

    Nobody.

I'd be willing to wait on Yao for a year, but if it is over. I agree that is what we do.

We do a Portland or Oklahoma City. No heroics just to get to an 8th seed and one and done.

Now we will see if all the Morey worship is justified. He can no longer worry about tweaking the roster. He needs to completely rebuild it starting with a sign and trade of Artest.

One way might be to dust off the Spur strategy employed for the Tim Duncan sweepstakes. We could play Lowry, PG; Brooks, SG; Budinger, SF; Landry, PF; and Scola, C. Wafer (if he signs) and Taylor could back up Brooks, depending on matchups, and Battier could back up Budinger until Battier is traded. This lineup should be good for 20 wins for sure. T-Mc's contract should bring us a decent center, maybe Diop and Gerald Wallace from Charlotte, and other players might get us some mid to late first rounders, which could be packaged on draft day for a better pick.

John Wall, PG, should be first prize in the 2010 lottery. Another bad season should bring in another high lottery pick, and we then should have enough cash to fill in the blanks. In three years we are the new Portland. But is Morey nearly as good as Kevin Pritchard. I doubt it, but now I have to hope.

Oh basketball gods, why? why? why? I am still in shock. I was really excited and eagerly looking forward to next season and another deep offseason/championship run, and this. What a downer!

    "10. We have Daryl Morey."

This is good enough for me. If anyone can build a team from scratch, we have the perfect GM for it.

Still, if we rebuild, expect many seasons of non-contention. Lack of playoffs for a couple seasons isn't that bad because draft days will be more exciting.

Technically, we have just rebuilt the franchise over the last couple of years.

While the Yao issue is critical and devastating, I say F rebuilding in the sense that we have to blow up the team. Especially over a guy like Rubio.

Resign Artest and Scola, keep your eye out for other young talent that is out there but if we have any hopes of making it if Yao is indeed finished, we need to keep level heads and just RELOAD, rebuilding is something the teams at the bottom level are doing, the overall team minus Yao, T-Mac and Artest is at worst barely making the playoffs solid. We just need another consistent weapon to help with the offense.

Now here is a classic example of the power of positive thinking -- while making lemonade from the lemons. Bravely spoken. :)

Funny thing is we were always mediocre with Tmac and Yao even when they were FULLY healthy. The 05 series against the Mavs and 07 series against the Jazz are proof of that. One could make an argument that the supporting cast wasn't as good before as now but I'd rather save my breath and move on.

This latest news could be a huge blessing in disguise.

If Morey somehow 1) got Rubio, 2) traded McGrady for younger players/lottery pick by the trade deadline, and 3) tanked this season to get better draft position in 2010, we'd actually be in pretty good shape.

But if 1) and 2) don't happen, which is just as likely, we may be in for a fairly long and arduous rebuilding haul.

Now its about young upside players that can function in adelmans offense. Its about putting a target on players and using assets to get them.

Outlaw and Jordan as a couple of building blocks. Try to move scola, shane, hayes, sign and trade artest.

I've always sort of enjoyed the whole rebuilding process. Obviously, I would prefer to watch a contending team... but I'm all for rebuilding.

Completely agree. Time to pull a Spurs and tank. Those of you who don't like that strategy think where the Spurs would be without Duncan and where the Celtics would be if they got the #1 (which they should have that year).

    1. Tank and select John Wall
    2. Trade T-mac for picks and younger players with upside or just let him expire and go after the 2010 bonanza
    3. Figure out the insurance situation with Yao. Can we trade him like T-mac?
    4. Sign and trade Artest for picks or young players with upside
    5. Trade Battier and Brooks you have Lowry and Wall after all

Even though this is a sad day for all of us Rockets fan, but lets face it, as some have pointed out, the past 4 or 5 years we have only been competitive.

I think most Rockets fan ( not called YOF) and even some of the managment should/are no longer content with just that (being competitive), this is the perfect time to move towards building a team that actually we can enjoy watching, be proud of and can win.

I no longer want to see players on our team that would just flat out **** in there shorts EVERY TIME clock shows 2.00 minutes in the forth quarter!!

Call me harsh or insensitive and flame away, but enough with ass kissing party for me.

I trust in the ownership and managment to make the right choices and would like to see at least two GOOD first round pick in next years draft and also couple of good trades that would also bring draft picks our way.

I hate to burst the bubble here, but rebuilding is not fun.

Look at Portland -- they have a great management team and got lucky in multiple drafts and yet it took them 7 years to get back to the palyoffs and close to be a contender again. They've had a few awful seasons during the rebuilding process.

It's going to be a bumpy road ahead and as a true Rockets fan you should be ready to stick with this team through some tough times. And if we are rebuilding, I don't expect coach Adelman to stick around for long. Rick is too good a coach to be with a rebuilding team.

Sign Artest, Sign Gortat, and forget about Yao. Gortat will do things that Yao couldn't and will fit Adelman's system better, he won't score as much but he can move to the high post or low post and he won't have the ball stripped or turn the ball over as much as Yao.

My ideal scenrio would be to trade TMAC for young talent and maybe even a draft pick, trade Battier and Scola for more young talent, Stink and get a high draft pick in a loaded draft of 2010 and sign impact players in 2010 if both Tmac and Yao are gone. If we can get two draft picks next year it would be ideal where we can get John Wall or leverage to get Rubio from Minnesota along with another player like Al-Farouq Aminu out of Wake Forest or Cole Aldrich out of Kansas.

If Yao and T-Mac are out most of the season. It could be our version of the Spurs 1996-1997 season.

Then, we would draft the #1 pick and win the championship in 2010-2011 with a rookie, while Yao and T-Mac play the David Robinson role.
