Where did I say I wished him a career-ending injury?

the option to just let it heal on its own may just take as long as that.

surgery would take him out probably the entire year and then some.

i'd say avoid surgery until we know for sure it just won't heal on its own.

I think Scola is expendible, purely due to his age. He will be getting old by the time the Rockets compete in the playoffs again.

I think they should sign 'Sheed Wallace and take a look at a guy like Desmond Mason, or maybe even Iverson, and consider re-signing Von Wafer. Make it a 1 or 2 year deal, and have free agent money once Yao's contract is gone (or retired) to re-build overnight 'ala Boston or Orlando....

    Extremely bad news to take.

I really think the Rockets is a contender when Yao is back healthy next season. I just hope his career is not over and he'll come back and play soon.

    Get well soon, big guy.

I could live with trading Scola.

Actually, I don't see how anyone could untradeable on our team.

    First, my dream lineup:

    Brooks
    White
    Budinger
    Landry
    Cook

second, I think Adelman should be fired.

As far as I'm concerned, we might as well scrap this team and rebuild. Fortunately, imo, Morey holds the same opine. This is witnessed by the trade proposals that are rumored to be out there. By offering Landry, Brooks, Shane, & TMac, we are putting up for sale the secondary players in an effort to land a potential or established top tier player. That tells me we're looking at building for the future.

Rubio would take 2-3 years to settle into his position as a (hopefully) top tier point guard. Amare is young enough to stick around for the long haul, not good enough to carry us to the first round, and also, if need be, a contract that expires in a year should we deem him not a good fit for the future of this franchise. The moves make sense.

The next questions will revolve around HOW to rebuild this team. If we are to acquire Rubio, we will be an open court team. No doubt about that because it is wisest to build around his strengths in this guard dominated nba. Again, Amare could be a good fit in that. In the same vein, Artest is not a good fit, due to his age, lack of spped, etc. We're probably looking to build around long, athletic, quick players who are provenly adept at scoring, creativity, abd finishing ability. In that sense, its an exciting time to be a Rocket fan, since we're (potentially) looking for fluid, skilled players.

    Suicide Pact Thread..

A few nights ago, I wrote a thread which had the theme of the erratics of our movements this offseason. Today, we were beaten down by the truth. I am suprised how well everyone is holding up considering this is probably a quicksand pit that is going to swallow the last few years of our work. Yao going down will be just as hard on our defense as it will his offense. Maybe this will all go away, but I doubt it. Maybe we can get him back in time to tune up for the playoffs next year but I doubt it. I see the mock power rankings in my head and we just drop. Having that much money locked up into 2 injured players does DAMN a franchises year. You just can't do anything but lower expectations in that case. Which after this year, is the last thing we were planning on doing. This is going to be historic, its going to be Walton/Yao and the next talent who is just a slave to gravity and physics.
Will we sacrifice this year to bring Yao back the next year to a cast of essentially the same players (with a tweak here or loss there of course)?

Now of course I am not advocating we kill ourselves, due to this catastrophic news, but I am advocating looking at a figurative suicide for the franchise. Sometimes a person goes to kill themselves, has a epiphany and ultimately defies the odds and succeeds.

We need to be looking at the scariest contracts in the league. The ones that may be talented guys, but whos contract was out of whack. I would think that a franchise or two in the league who still trade something for Yao. It would probably be a horrid contract (or two?) and maybe an asset. The worst case for that team is he plays the next year, or does not pickup his option. Or not come back at all and get an injury exception, and later his bird rights. We can still win this year, but if we want to take a shot at that, we will have to take back some money. I think our friend DaDakotas strategy of Magette+ would be something to look at. GS has a fairly high Asian population and he would go a large market area. Maggette, Biedrins and another crap contract maybe.

I dont know, I remember when we the year we got the #8 pick in the draft. I just remember thinking about how long it was till the next year. And now, I feel worse (Donde estas me handgun?).

We need Corey Williams-Hancock or something, I dont know. We have to look at the best case scenario with Yao. Which he heals up, and the risk still looms over our head. Its a changing league anyway, and maybe we are just being stubborn in regards to those tides. We have a lot of good young role player types, but its even harder to find the stars/superstars to grow along with them, without having a down year. We might be at the point where we dont have as much room to dictate in trade negotiations. We might have to swallow the barrell (in a non gay way, although this situation is probably equally as distasteful)

I remember that year, we were almost there. We took the champions to 7 games.

    BANG?
