Agreed, if Yao is out, and the specialists agree, dump everyone get Young and go Portland style.

It's probably too early to request an official 2010 lottery thread isn't it?

As much as I didnt want Rubio, I trusted Morey and wondered why he was adamant about trying to get him. seems he knew something was up. If everything goes for the worse, I really cant expect him to salvage the season, cant blame Morey if this turns out bad.

Retooling just isn't going to work at this point. We've got to move on and focus on rebuilding.

The #1 pick in that draft should be this organization's top priority starting from today. That means goodbye Shane, goodbye Luis.

We need to be "cultivating" young talent from this moment forward. As it stands, there isn't a single player on this roster with significant upside. That needs to change.

Yeah, the aggressively pursuing Rubio makes a lot more sense now... Everything does, including draft night.

I posted this in another thread but still applies to this.

Morey has been put in a real tough situation. This news getting out has put us in a bind. Teams will now know we're desperate and force Morey to give up more than he would want to in trades.

That being said, I don't think Morey is stupid enough to give up more than he has to out of desparation. Chances are Morey makes minor deals here and there to keep the team competitive. If that's the case, prepare for a year of mediocrity. It's all leading to the Summer of '10, now.

With that number 2 pick and knowing this now, maybe he was after Thabeet? The most dominant big man in the draft and a true center.

Of course he knew what was up. The Yahoo reporter's source was GMs from around the league who had spoken with Morey recently.

It's gotta be tough to be Morey right now, the team is at a crossroads, does he blow it up or piece the team together and try again in 2010?

I think he thinks "THIS IS BAD", at best Yao will be a part time player for the next two years" So he cranks up the lawyers and the accountants and he gets the facts and figures, the scouts for who to look at, and hopes for the best.

But, you don't replace consensus #1's.

You gotta wonder if the 'path of least resistance' alternative, converting to an uptempo game might seem the way to go. But no 18 year old kid can save a GM.

Those years between Hakeem and Yao were long.

*who would settle to have a Kelvin Cato right about now*

What aey ou talking about? The OP isn't saying we are elite with two more role players. He is saying our set of role players are the type that would be on an elite team if they ahve the right stars with them. We need to pieces, which are both allstars at the very least.

I guarantee you we can make the WCF at the very least with two allstars that can stay healthy and our current group of roleplayers.

Now, the 09/10 season is a complete loss. I say we rank somewhere around 10 or 11 in the west. We wil still be an ok team. What we need to do is keep our young roleplayers here and ship off Battier and Scola for more talent.

Use all the money coming in from T-Mac to Sign someone HUGe in 2010, and then sign another star with the money coming off the books from Yao the year after that.

It takes patience from the fans, the team, and the young roleplayers, but it can be done if the right culture is instilled into this team.

Gotta love hubris coming from a guy advocating that we keep our roleplayer core together while with the next breath, suggests that we "Sign someone HUge in 2010" with "all the money coming in from T-Mac" and likewise with Yao "the year after that."

please get a clue regarding the salary cap before engaging in discussion. thanks.

I guarantee you we make the playoffs next year...

And we will probably do no worse than this year.
    Here is why:
    1) We have a GM and Owner would do their parts to acquire talent
    2) We still have Brooks, Scola, Battier, Landry, Lowry (aka a solid group)
    3) We have T-Mac (contract)
    4) We have a midlevel exception and trade exceptions
    5) We will receive a medical exception
    6) We just added young talent in Buddinger and Taylor

There are teams like the Pistons or Clippers looking to get rid of players like Kaman or Camby or Randolph or Hamilton or Redd or Brand...so quality guys can be had.
With essentially two midlevel exceptions, we can make offers to Artest, Odom, Ariza, Big Baby, Gortat, Bibby, the Birdman, Gooden, Anthony Parker. So we could potential add Glen Davis, Marcin Gortat and Anthony Parker for example plus whatever T-Mac would fetch us. And these would likely healthy players! As BROOKS so wisely stated that was the issue. I am completely confident we will bounce back!
