Yao Ming should now retire as a Rocket, I can't take the heartache anymore and i'm sure the same for millions of fans.

I just read this and had a nice chuckle of sadness.

    Just honestly not surprised.

I've been surfing this bbs and the GARM all morning, and then I see this ten page thread staring at me with the worst possible news a rockets fan could hear. :(

i agree that this has to be the reason why the rockets pursued rubio so much...and if they did really offer up battier, when they previously wouldn't in any trade, pretty much says they are looking to rebuild with a younger core. The draft picks are further proof of this. Im not sure how it can be disputed, a lot of us have been saying if they are going after rubio they might as well trade Yao too since that sounds like rebuilding, and well it is.....

I'm shocked it happened now, not shocked that it did though...i'm not that upset though since by now you expect it....i am glad though that we have some talent anyway and unless we completely gut the team i still expect these guys to compete. I actually wouldn't mind Taylor just being unleashed right away, i have a feeling he's going to surprise and very quickly.

And i hope they shift the focus from rubio to a big, otherwise rubio won't matter...

If we get a playmaking point guard.. sure.. not if Artest signs. I think Amare is one of those guys who feeds on good PG play..

I agree with you dude. I won't panic until I Yao's injury is confirmed by the Team.

I've been reading this guys' articles. Most of them are quite subjective. Even if Yao did come back September, he can still escape because he said Yao COULD be out for the season or forever.

Who's not surprised ? I mean this happens every year to Rocket fans !! Kobe, Lebron, MJ, Magic, Bird, Hakeem.... those guys never got hurt but the Rockets including Battier, Wafer, Artest, Rafer, and of course Yao and T-Mac have all been hurt. I just miss the days where the Rockets were Champs and no one got hurt :(

hmm I guess you guys are just denying the inevitable.. I dont think Yahoo sports will put this up on the front page with Yao's photo glaring on the screen without verifying the news.. thats a lot of rep at stake.. so i guess its true..

Adrian Wojnarowski is as solid an NBA source as Bucher, Aldridge, etc. He broke most of the news on draft night for example.

I'd still wait for a report from another independent source before curling up in the shower and crying, but there's at least smoke in the air.

The Rockets may have implied Yao's status is worse than it is for some kind of leverage in trade talks. At least that's what I'm hoping.

If anything this hurts Ron chances to re-sign here unless he gives one hell of a discount which he won't do.

since when was there a fear he was "lost for next season?"

I mean there's still alot of time but nothing was mentioned that he'd miss the whole season let alone retire. there are things missing.

Devastating news, but not unexpected -- all we can do is sit back and hope it's not really as bad as the article reports. Unfortunately I suspect this news isn't far from the truth. Yao is such a great guy -- I don't think there is anyone who wants to see him go out like this.

    Fact: The injury hasn't healed.
    Fact: It's reason for concern.
Fact: If dramatic surgery is required, he will miss significant time.
Fact: The Rockets won't say anything until more tests are run.

How is this article any different than what we all knew yesterday? The only difference is that a reporter now said "league sources" are saying the worst-case scenario is that he misses the season.

I just don't see how this article says anything different than what we already knew. Until Morey talks, I won't contribute to the speculation that he's done. If this guy's "league source" isn't a Rockets GM or a Rockets doctor, then I'm skeptical.

And the talk of tanking and rebuilding is just crazy. Even if we don't have Yao, it' isn't like the team will be exactly what we had vs. the Lakers. Morey is too good to just say 'screw it'.

That's not a good sign if they're so quick to address a rumor. I think Yao is more than likely gone-burger.
