Am I to understand that you do not think that Shane is a smart player?

    Wow... I mean wow.

I can understand the trade because you are giving up a more cerebral player for a more talented player, but don't ever say it's because the two couldn't work together. Shane is not an offensive moron, he could work just fine with Rubio or anyone else. The thing that Shane does not do, is look for more of his own offense with this group of players. He's deferring to everyone else.

If it's true, glad we were turned down.

Didn't say that he's an offensive moron or anything and yes he does defer to everyone (to a fault). He's great at a slow it down, half court set. I'm just saying that Shane isn't the greatest guy offensively to have if you want your wing to be integrated into a movement type offense. IF we did bring in Rubio, you better believe that the offense will be based a little, scratch that, a lot more on what Rick wants and that is a read and react style which is not a particular strength of Shane's. You have to admit that Shane does tend to camp out on the three point line a lot.

Honestly, I dont think there will be that many more suitors for him. You're gonna have your lottery teams and then your playoff teams. Of course, I dont think many playoff teams are chasing Rubio and then some teams in the lottery may not need him. LAC - dont need him, Mem - could use him but he wont go there, cross them off, OKC technically doesnt need him, Sacramento just took Evens, GS - I dont know, I dont think they need him, NY - the only other team so far in pursuit, Toronto Milwaukee NJ and Charlotte dont need him, Indiana could use him, Phoenix doesnt need him now with Nash there, maybe in a year or 2?, Detroit Chicago and Philly dont need him, Atlanta could maybe use him, Utah NO LAL Cle Wash. Den SA Miami Boston Dallas and Portland dont need him, So with that, I could see maybe 4-5 teams make a run at him including us, maybe less. And as it seems with NY being the only other team in pursuit right now, Houston could have a good shot at landing him granted Minneosta moves him.

i don't think this rumor was real. I think this is a false rumor from the wolves in order to get other teams to offer more, or a hint to rockets that they want brooks and battier for rubio.

Reasons why I think this is fake.

    1. we are very close to being a championship team, actually just one game away. so why would Morey breakup the team?

    2. reason why we took Lakers to 7 games that no other teams has done - Battier. Why are we trading him away when he is the only Kobe killer beside maybe bowen who is 40 yrs old?

    3. The best defender in the league and one of the fastest and upcoming PG for a NBA unproven PG who may not even be playing in NBA at all next season due to contract issue.

    4. If rubio is that good, why would the wolves want to deal him? why not flynn?

I agree with you. But it's too soon for the Minnesota GM to bite.

I'm sure that Minnesota could also squeeze Taylor or Budinger out of us.

    battousai,

Why would Morey make such a deal when our roster took LA to 7? For the future of the franchise, for the money that Rubio would make in our large Spanish-speaking community, because Battier is sliding downhill and a second deal on our part could fill the void left by his departure.

If Portland is still high on Battier, maybe we move him to Portland, send Minny Travis Outlaw and/or Martell Webster, and send Minny something else such as Landry, rights to Llull, and a future #1 pick?

Battier is a moveable piece at this point. If we re-sign Artest, we can then trade McGrady for a more defensive oriented 2 guard to body up on Kobe.

Sheed and Artest on the same team?

I think that will end up like Pippen Barkley.

Wow...that would not be a good trade in my opinion.

Atleast resign Artest or get a deal for Prince before you trade away our best perimeter defender.

On top of that, you will be trading away the player that gave the Lakers the most trouble, Aaron Brooks.

I mean, Rubio is probably very skilled, BUT athletically he isn't there and he's very thin and weak.

Personally, I'm glad the T-Wolves turned down the offer.

Also, he might be held back because of the slow tempo we play here with Yao.

The ONLY REASON I would make this trade is if we are rebuilding, otherwise no to this trade

He is the real deal. He's an incredible talent.

But I still think Brooks + Battier might possibly be a little high. Not sure though.

If true, we would be significantly worse next year.

Exactly, we are not rebuilding so we don't need a Rubio, no matter how much potential this kid has.

Someone mentioned the Spurs? They never gambled on a rookie, they tweaked pieces, add Oberto here, sign Thomas there but the core guys remained with the team. They would never trade say TP+Bowen for an unproven rookie.
