I really hope we re-sign Artest and go after Turkglu.

If we get Turk.. we can let Wafer walk.

Picking a certain player in ANY draft is a collective effort by several people involved . It should not be credited or blamed on any single person!

Coaches generally say what type of players is needed OR is missing in the mix and GM would try to find the right fit, then it will be disscussed if.................

However, Battier's trade was somthing that was highly pushed by MR. JVG!

i do not understand this "i told you so" mentality people on this bbs have with rudy gay. never have i seen one fan base so dramatically overrate the contributions of a mediocre player the way you guys overrate rudy freaking gay. what does he do exactly that helps his team win? he's an inconsistent effort guy that plays marginal defense, gets his highlights, and moves along. he doesnt provide anything that half of the 3 men in the nba couldn't do. and he doesnt win, he doesnt lead, and doesnt make the other guys on the floor better.

dont forget that we got to dump stromile's contract on memphis and got one of the best defensive 3s in the game, all for the cost of rudy gay? that was a hell of a deal.

I think most will agree with you, BUT the problem everyone has/had is we should have gotten more. Just that.

why should we have gotten more? rudy gay isn't that great, and nobody available at that pick rated as being that great either.

shane was signed to a long-term, reasonable contract, was a great locker room guy, the leader of their defense, and a guy who until that point memphis considered pretty much untradeable (a lot of teams tried to get him from memphis before we did, and they always said no). so, we get a guy that everyone wanted, that memphis didnt want to trade, and they have to take stromile's contract, and all we gave up was rudy gay?

i dont understnad how thats a bad deal in any way.

Why should we have gotten more??
Because in that same draft, we could not convert our lottery pick AND an additional player to move up TWO spots, and also NOBODY before any draft knows 100% what a player will become or Roy would be the first pick or Ginbli might have gone in top five.

Let me beat that horse further and say that sometime after he was let go as the Rockets coach, JVG said in an interview that it was not his decision or suggestion to trade for Battier. He was pretty clear about this.

OTOH, as a commentator, he is said to have dismissed Rudy Gay for his lack of defensive intensity. So if the Rockets did keep Gay, there could've been problems between Gay and JVG.

Leebigez, you called that one-- Sheed to SA. However, the Rockets are also a candidate for guys seeking a championship. The big screw is that Yao's latest injury does not help attract stars.

I agree, we should have gotten more. I think the "giggling like a school girl" Jerry West, should have given anyone who didn't have a clue - a BIG sign, at that point, that maybe we didn't get the best of that deal.

Don't get me wrong, I'm glad we got Shane, but I honestly thought we would have gotten more for Gay than we actually did.

Even i don't hate the trade as much as people think i do, but the rox shouldve gotten a whole lot more. When you dangle the 8th pick no matter who it is, you should get more than shane battier. Everyone was waiting for players to be mentioned or even draft picks, but when it was the 8th plus swift for shane, that just doesn't compute.

T-Mac back to Orlando?? That's cool I would have loved to see that happened. McGrady and Dwight would have been nice. I doubt they do the trade now considering Turk is not going to resign unless they still want to trade for him by including Lewis in a deal. The only thing is that Lewis' deal is large and as a player he doesn't deserve that kind of money.

It would be nice though to see the cousins play again before they retire. McGrady left Orlando because of that G.M. Now that he isn't there no more I wonder if he would want to return home and play now that his cousin is there.

yeah, we could have got more. WE DEFINITELY HAVE GOTTEN MORE.

And people stop saying it was fair value at the time. Sure, Battier is a great player...so why dont Portland trade Brandon Roy for him??? I mean hes wins you games!!! uhhhh....

The most frustrating r****ded argument that people on this BBS brings up is "Gay doesnt win"...

Did Dwayne Wade win games in the 06-07 season??? How much did Kevin Martin win??!!! What about Al Jefferson??!!! Did any of those 2 guys actually win??? So you saying Minnesota should trade Al Jefferson for Battier..."because he wins"...I mean come on, even Chuck Hayes won more than Gerald Wallace ever did...and who would you rather have??? Winning doesn't mean your good, it just means your TEAM is good...Put Rudy Gay on the Spurs and see how much he wins...for **** sakes Tracy McGrady lost a whole truckload of games and look ..... hes a mega superstar...when we traded for him. Winning is too much of a overrated factor here...you guys think just because he wins he must be great...I mean so?? We're talking about a player in a vacuum here...its not like we're trading for him whole team....I cant believe u guys even bring the stupid argument that "rudy gay doesnt win hence battier is better player for the rockets"

What are we looking for right now??? A wing scorer??? Yeah thats right... we just traded a star wing player away 3 drafts ago who would have blossomed into a star right now and then we want him back???

let me bring forward one more piece of evidence..."KEVIN DURANT DID NOT "WIN""
I mean us wanting Gay back is pretty obvious of the actual truth here...

To top it off, we've been looking for that wing scorer for the last 2 yrs. We traded the 8th, yet we signed wells, traded for von and traded for artest. This draft, we drafted basically drafted 3 wing players again. Someone is looking for something.

Simply look at what other teams are getting in return for what they give up. And you'll see a #8 pick + filler gets back more than a 4th option defensive player.

Golden States #7 + filler almost got them Amare freaking Stoudamire

If I remember correctly Gay would not have been our pick if the trade had not gone down it would have been Thebo S. so the issue should be the pick not the trade. At the time of the trade it make sense because Gay was unproven with question marks and Shane was the glue guy we needed. Amare to GS is not for Curry and fillers...GS is gutting there core players for him. Curry, Bierdens, Wright and Marco Belinelli is ALOT to give up for a player and the extension???
