He's opting out...I know he is a starter, but would you ever want him to back up Yao? Personally I hate all things Utah Jazz, but he's a good player..thoughts?
i hate everything in utah too... hit some big shots against us in the playoffs though... solid rebounder and can shoot the ball... how much would we pay him MLE? would he take that?
Question is, would he want to come to Houston? I doubt that but from a basketball standpoint I dont see him wanting to back up Yao, and the only other option would be to bump Scola from the 4 to the bench.
And why is this a discussion? Didn't he opt out from a close to 10million a year deal? Obviously he's going to want more, or at least more of the same. So the rockets offering the MLE doesn't mean jack. And for us, he isn't worth paying big money to even if Utah agreed to sign and trade him to us, which they wont. I really just don't see the point.
When I saw this post I thought the exact same thing. Realistically I like our chances at getting Gortat
don't be fooled. okur is only good against us because yao can't guard his 3 pointers. he's really an above average center who is somewhat soft.
actually this is great news if he's not returning to the jazz. okur was their biggest mismatch against us.
Above average center is already value at MLE. I'd rather have him than Artest personally. Let's pay him what we are supposed to pay Artest. Voila, our swingman problem is resolved, and Yao Ming gets a pretty good backup who becomes a capable starter when Yao gets injured during the early playoffs. And Utah loses their Yao killer. And our team's BBIQ increases yet again. 4 birds in 1 stone. Get it done Morey
What swingman problem? If Wafer doesn't resign we have nobody who can score from the 2 or 3. That's a pretty big problem, I'd say. And Okur isn't opting out to be anyone's backup. Paying a backup center 8 million per year would be a waste anyway even if Yao is prone to injury. So yeah, I don't see the point either. With that said, I would take him for the MLE.
Hell yes I would take him. Look at his numbers! They are very good and with his range you could even have him at PF with Yao (or Scola) and let him rain threes if teams double down low. He isn't known as a locker room cancer or someone to have problems off the court so why not pick him up?
1. No Jazzholes or Fakers here. except, Brian Cook 'cause he is the one and only garbage man. 2. No Floppers in Rocket Uniform.
