I'm fairly certain that Morey has done extensive research on Rubio and has many scouts that have seen what he brings as a skill set and as an asset to the team. A few videos on Youtube may not be spectacular but I'm sure Morey knows what he sees in Rubio that can make him a quality NBA pro.
But, it also means Rubio is not a selfish player. He doesn't play for stats. Although he didn't have good stats against team USA in Olympics, Kobe and Kidd all give him good evaluation after that game.
Of course us Americans haven't seen much of him, dude is only 18 AND he plays in Europe. there games are not broadcast here i don't think?
Please find where I said it was ok when other players did the same thing. It's not right when ANY players pull this type of garbage. Yes, I think going to a team that is struggling in a city that is painfully cold shows mental toughness and the ability to deal with adversity. Wouldn't you say going to work at a tough job in a bad environment and being professional about it shows mental toughness and the ability to deal with adversity? I wonder what school some of you guys come from that failed to teach you reading comprehension.
i though i had heard of this, but later read that it was overblown... so i searched and found this: http://www2.journalnow.com/content/2008/jun/18/lakers-trade-for-bryant-has-been-misconstrued/ i think if Kobe really had forced it himself it would be brought up all the time, but it's not, so i think it was just a rumor.
IT DOESNT MAKE FINANCIAL SENSE FOR HIM TO GO TO MINNY He wont get the endorsements he needs in a small market like Minnesota to pay off his contract. He obviously needs to a bigger market where the team has a shot of winning so he can find the endorsement deals to buy out his contract... duh
then he should definitely come to houston. Ricky can tackle two markets at once U.S and CHina(with help of yao Ming).
we trade mc-gaydy, ab, and landry for amare and barbosa we resign wafer then we trade future picks, brent barry, and wafer for rubio. so our line up Pg Rubio/Lowry Sg Artest/Barbosa Sf Battier/Artest/Amare Pf Amare/Scola/Dorsey C Yao/Hayes. scary.
you cannot sign and trade wafer as part of a package he would have to be a sign and trade for himself plus seriously why would minnesota want an aging/old PG/SG who wouldnt play, a me-first shooting guard that has bounced around all over the league and future picks that most likely be in the late 20s for a person who many consider to be the next great PG in the league?
Didn't have time to read all four pages, so sorry if this has been wrote, but shouldn't he be happy to even be playing in the NBA? Not to many basketball players get a chance to play professionally anyway. I personally wouldn't play there, but if I got paid the kind of money that he's going to get paid, I would play wherever they needed me.
that's what joe dumars saw too in darko. and darko has been his ONLY mistake as a GM. he's been great besides darko.
why would rubio want to stay with minny when he has to share time with flynn and he might just be labeled a project and put on the backburner...
he'll be a bust if people think he's going to be an all-star/superstar caliber player. i've said in his prime, the best he'll be is a very good starter in this league. bust only depends on what your expectations are. i mean, darko is considered a BUST b/c he was drafted #2 with superstar aspirations. now he's just a starter in this league.
they weren't going to win a championship anymore with chauncey (they'll be more competitive than with AI). they're getting ready for 2010. i think it was still a right move long term from the outside looking in.
billups was not the reason that the pistons were going to not succeed it had to do with losing ben wallace (right move to let him walk though) and not finding a acceptable replacement Rasheed Wallace basically not caring anymore, he should have moved wallace for some one long ago. not only did he trade the motor that ran the team he brought back a guy that clearly did not fit at all with the pistons style of play, if an expiring contract is what he wanted there could have been other teams that could have offered multiple players with expirings or future draft picks to make it work. remember he had to include mcdyess in the deal to make it work. and not bothering retaining any of their bench players that helped them win the ring. if not retaining at least trying to replace them. signing curry as the coach was a mistake and you cant just casually him picking Darko. I am sorry its one thing if you picked darko at #2 in lasts night draft but picking him in the deepest draft in the past decade is something else. He passed on 3 different players that have changed the faces of the franchises that drafted them, its rare enough to get a franchise player in the draft, but to pass on 3 off them is something else. Even if you dont play them you pick them to trade for players you can use, no other team was as high on darko as the pistons were, teams were high on anthony, bosh and wade though. imagine if the rockets GM did that he would have been run out of town long ago, winning that championship that year IMO saved dumars job then and he is just working with dwindling borrowed time now.
even if billups stayed, they were not going to beat the celts/cavs. i think dumars knew that. i mean, they would still be way more competitive and might advance in the playoffs, but championship was not possible. but you're also right with the other reasons for why the pistons struggled (and it wasn't just chauncey), esp. signing curry as the coach (terrible coach) however, did you remember the hype on darko? it was HUGE. he was touted as the NEXT BIG CENTER/BIG MAN to come from Europe, a hybrid of KG and dirk. although the draft was VERY VERY deep, the hype was ridiculous for darko. i was like, who's this kid? then i saw his highlights, and said are they stupid? it's the same situation i'm feeling with rubio right now. the hype is very similar. now rubio is hyped as the next big PG with skills of jkidd/magic.
last i will say anything on this since the thread has derailed far enough Darko did have a lot of hype, maybe even less than Rubio since a Rubio has had the international spotlight put on him because of the olympics and all. I remember no such thing for Darko when he was drafted. BUT the one thing I did remember too about Darko which is similar to Rubio was both were labeled projects. Darko especially since big men take longer to adjust and develop to the NBA game. the other 3 franchise players were ready to contribute within the next season in some sort of way. You do NOT pick a project like that when there are franchise-type players on the board. There was one possible franchise player in Griffin this year no one else. Picking Rubio as a project isnt as big of a gamble as getting Darko was...I mean who else was out there that you think should have been picked over rubio? pretty much all the players have the same amount (or less) experience as him that have similar ceilings...the other players who have more experience have possibly reached their ceilings. Unless Curry, Hill, Derozan (not counting flynn since wolves drafted him) become franchise players then yeah minnesota made a mistake, but all 3 of them do not have the same talent as anthony, bosh, wade Like I said Dumars kept his job because the team won the title that year and took the spurs to a game 7 the following year. Had he drafted anyone of the 3 they probably would have won that 2nd finals and competed for many more in the past 3-4 years. Werent they in the conference finals like 4-5 years in a row after they won their title? I am not as high on Rubio as others but I am not going to dismiss him as a bust, he is 18 and has a lot of international experience already, he is a project he has the tools he can be special its just going to take some time, but when other NBA players and scouts rave about him then there is some fire to the smoke that everyone sees.
