I didn't realize it was so expensive to "buy" draft picks. I thought it would just be a few hundred thousand, but apparently it cost the Rockets around 6 MILLION to buy those picks (and cost us a 2nd rounder next year). So my question is, does that money effect our cap room as far as free agency at all? I really hope it doesn't, b/c I don't see any of these 3 players doing much for us this upcoming season. Probably would have just been better off sitting this one out!
No, thats the value of buying player assets like this. These either become players and their contracts that we can add to get a more valuable player, or replace players we've developed to prime value. But, no, that money does not count against our salary cap or luxury tax limit.
so what about the team getting the money, can they add that towards the salary cap to open up space or they just use it on other stuff?
No that is just money in their pockets but they can use it to help pay the luxary tax if they go over.
