Yes, he does come close to a young Brent Barry in athleticism. Dude was an All-American volleyball player in high school and could have played for the USA in the 2008 Olympics if he had chosen to focus on volleyball instead of basketball. He's got a freakin' 40" vertical!!!

That being said, he is not nearly the passer that Barry was coming out of Oregon State. Plus, Barry was a lot more aggressive going to the hoop than Budinger.

Bottom line: I LOVE this pick. I actually love all three picks. I actually called both the Jermaine Taylor pick and the Sergio Llull pick when they were made (no joke!), since I recognized Taylor as a guy who came in multiple times for workouts with the Rockets, and Morey and the front office has made numerous trips to Europe just to scout Llull.

Taylor and Budinger will play next year. Llull will develop overseas and may end up being the best of the three.

Bye bye, Von. Enjoy your payday elsewhere.

    joke?

I like Budinger. He's versatile, he can shoot, he can put the ball on the floor. His only real knock is his defense but perimeter man defense is quickly becoming less important in the NBA. If he can learn some solid principles from Shane and Ron we don't have much to worry about. You could say he doesn't like taking contact around the rim but fouls get called if you even breath on a player in the NBA. I think he could be one of those special 2nd rounders that has an immediate impact. Not a star or anything but I think he'll be in the league a while, which is more than you can say for many 2nd rounders.

Who didn't Brooks cheap shot in college?
Don't remember incident with them thoug.
Brooks dropped Stuart Appleby(UW) in the Pac10 tourney then everytime he went on the road he was called Applebitch.
100% cheap shot from Brooks on that one.

I saw this game and that dunk was freakin awesome and game changing (ironically it was his only field goal of the game, but a crucial one). They went on to rally KU.

Rockets added Chase Budinger to make 3 2nd rounders. Lull likely stays overseas but still hard to see two making the squad.

Will both Make the squad... who is more likely to make it?

I'm surprised that he fell all the way to 44,but he can play. He will be better than Novak IMO. A good pick. Let's see who will come through training camp.

He's also a very good passer with very good vision. Knows how to play the pick and roll and does remind me a lot ......wait for it........TRACY MCGRADY!.........passing wise. He gave Jordan Hill a lot of pick pop/roll opportunties.

Budinger has the potential to be good under Adelman's system.

The Rockets could have asked Budinger if he was willing to go overseas before deciding to draft him...

i'm actually a fan of his. he's def. better than novak. but we'll see. i don't see any of them making a big impact next yr. we're gonna be the same team unless we make some trades. we're def. still a step behind the cavs, magic, lakers.

Is it fair to compare him to let's say a Mike Dunleavy (Jr)?
