Can Griffin play the 3? It would be best for the Rockets if he can. Here's why: Ming-Cato-Collier MoT-KT-TMo Griffin-Rice Mobley-? Francis-Norris I like the lineup above, and all you would be missing is a SG that can backup Mobley and not lose too much.(which could be found in the draft) If Griffin can't play the 3 (not being quick enough) and has to play the 4, we will have an over abundance of 4's, and still be missing a 2 & 3, but I wonder what kind of deal we could get with MoT or KT on the table.
we can allways move kt to the 3. oscar torres can average 15 points per game as a starter, i think he is a good back-up to cat. as for trading moT: moT and #15 to the sonics for lewis and a future #1 it cant be done on draft day but we can trade the picks on draft day to asure us that the deal gets done.
Griffin could play the SF spot defensively. Offensively he can be a PF, Mo's game is perfectly suited to the SF spot because he can put the ball on the floor, and he has some nice range. So just flip-flop offensively and defensively.
Griffin is not a 3, he does not possess the ball skills required to play the 3. Griffin showed at age 19 (last season), that he was our best defender in the paint. To take him out to guard 3's, on the perimiter, does not make sense. Bottom line, Griffin is the Rockets PF of the future. Unlike KT & Taylor, Griffin will be one of the most complete players in the league, after he adds about 20 lbs, and gets comfortable with his post game (which I predict you will see by training camp). KT and ?, will hopefully bring us a good SF. I have doubts that Nachbar will be the answer (at #15). I think we need to move up for Butler, Woods, Tskitishvili, Jefferies or trade for a veteran SF (under 35 preferably - see Rice, hopefully under 28).
See KVH: If you have a big 3, but can't post up any, what the sense of that. The smaller 3's are already going to be quicker, but if you can't take advantage of their lack of size, you're really missing or not using an natural advantage.
If the Rockets can get an enforcer type, like Stoudemire, to play the 4 then I think moving Griffin to the 3 wouldn't be that bad an idea. He can roam around like Horry or Garnett do and block all the shots that Ming or Stoudemire can't get to. However, I'm NOT in favor of moving Griffin to the 3 just so Taylor can play the 4.
Stoudemire an enforcer? Since when does Garnett roams and blks shots everywhere? Plus, Garnett is much quicker and atheletic than griffin. On atheletic ability, Griffin is more on Duncan's level, not Garnett or Rasheeds level. I guess you could try Griffin there, but I still don't know why you would want your best shotblocker that far away from the basket. If you look at the leading shotblockers, they don't leave too far from the paint since you're not going to block many jumpers anyway.
And that is why the Rockets look at Griffin as a 4. Griffin's #1 attribute thus far is shot blocking and thus they will keep him closer to the paint to maximize his potential there. Chris
i think griffin's most recent comments have him at the 4. this goes with rocket!!'s information that he has bulked up and is working on his post-up game. i don't think rudy has any plans with eddie as a future 3 since that would take away his biggest strength thus far. dreamcasting alot of people put him there because it fills our hole and makes for a cooler looking lineup but realistically it doesn't work like that. until he's ready to take over, he'll probably rotate the 3-4 with mo and kenny but none of them will be your standard "3".
Griffin would be the ultimate 3 if he had ball handling skills. Since he doesn't, we have no choice but to play him at 4 on offense and on D it maximizes his ability to block shots. However, I could see him getting a lot of blocked shots at the 3 also. I mean just look at Darius Miles or Vince Carter.
Griffin will definitely be our 4 for the future, I want to give MoT another chance on this team. KT is a hard worker, but I don't think he fits well with this team, and he can definitely be good trade bait. I like R.Lewis on the Rockets, he is a 3 with good range and lots of strength. Ming-Cato Griffin-MoT Lewis-Rice Mobley-? Francis-Norris Aren't we still missing a legit SG (not Torres)?
