Nash mightn't demand a trade but he's said he won't sign an extension if the Suns salary dump instead of improve their roster as he wants to commit to a contending team. Refusing an extension will be as good as a trade request.

The Suns could still make some other moves but it's looking like they're going a "different direction" to Nash.

Dude, I can't wait for the pre game antics.....

This definitely catapults the Cavs as favorites if Shaq is any bit motivated.

Just wait for the hype machine to get started, Stern and the media would j*zz in their pants if there's a finally a Lakers/Cavs finals. Lebron vs. Kobe; Kobe vs. Shaq; the battle for the 5th ring......

Keep in mind that while yes there are a few teams getting good players off salary dumps, we did get artest for near nothing last offseason and scola for less than nothing the summer before. We haven't sat on our hands, like some people imply. Give Morey some time to see what else opens up, he deserves the chance.

Shaq is definitely motivated. Barring an injury he will be even more productive than he was last year! But favorites? I don't think so. They need a wing that can create his own shot. Maybe a favorite in the East.

    This.

Why are people criticizing Morey for other team's trades? It's not like the Cavs stole O'neal out from under us, or Richard Jefferson, for that matter.

Morey is going to do SOMETHING, guys.

If the Celtics start dismantling their core, the Cavs are finals bound this season. No other Eastern team comes close, IMO.

so penny hardaway, kobe bryant, and dwyane wade wasn't enough? now he gets to play with the best of all of those guys? maybe we can get a time machine and bring 1992 michael jordan to the present and let shaq be on his team, too. shocking that he's accomplished and won more than hakeem did.

after maybe russell, magic, and bird, has anyone had it better? he gets off miami right when they suck and now gets off the sinking phoenix ship to a 66 win team precisely because his contract is so bad. amazing.

if he doesn't get injured, this makes the cavs obviously better. the cavs were the best overall team in the east last year, but just matched up poorly with orlando. dwight can't score on people he can't back down and like perkins and yao, he can't back shaq down even with shaq's reduced mobility because shaq is just too big (same things with yao). which means hedo and lewis are easier to contain and less open 3's. still some pick and roll problems but you take the tradeoff. so they've taken care of the biggest matchup problem in the nba that they had.

with bynum sucking so much and gasol so skinny, the lakers will have trouble containing shaq as well. and with the gravitational effect lebron has on defenses, shaq should be even harder to keep off the offensive boards. if he doesn't fall off too hard suddenly, cleveland should win the title. 2 of the 4 biggest physical freaks in nba history on the same team, wow.

seriously, all phoenix could get was wallace and pavlovic and a 2nd rounder? not even a token first rounder?

great trade for cleveland. mo williams, delonte west, lbj, joe smith and shaq. they just need a wing defender and another PF/C that plays good defense and rebounds.

firast rounder = guaranteed money. there's talk of the suns trading their 14th pick for the thunders' 25th pick. suns are looking to shed dollars.

everyone knows theyre desperate for cap relief. why give more than youre willing to if the other team's that desperate? im actually surprised phoenix got a pick as well. i guess cleveland's so grateful phoenix was giving them shaq, instead of with another team.

I am not sure LBJ and Shaq can co-exist well. Z is slow but a perfect complementary player for LBJ on offensive size, he's a good middle range shooter and can open up space for LBJ to the hoop. Shaq is not a threat 4 feet away from the basket, he's going to take away much of LBJ's layup.

I lean the same way but I imagine the Celtics getting better before they get worse. And you have some teams like Washington that are capable of anything in a 7 game series. You can't play Shaq and Z at the same time, so how much does it truly improve that team? One wing acquisition and I am sold.

I think we all saw this coming. This is a potential homerun type move for Cleveland and yet another reason why Phoenix is quickly becoming one of the biggest jokes in the NBA.

Marion nets Shaq, Shaq nets Sasha fricken Pavlocic.

I don't think trading Shaq means they blow up the team for sure.

I do think that trading Shaq for nothing but salary reduction menas they are more likely to blow up the team.

Nash said he wanted to wait to sign an extension because he wants to compete for a championship. We know that Shaq isn't working out, but to get absolutely no talent in return for him sure wouldn't make me happy if I were Nash.

It would be like the Rockets trading McGrady for Wallace and Pavlovic. Only worse because Shaq actually isn't injured.

    I agree.....

But Shaq have the biggest ego, pride...wat ever you call it...will he mesh with lebron. It just seems like lbj is getting so much media attention this past season that shaq felt jealous (with all the opening game antics). With them on the same team...I really can see this deal messing up the cavs chemistry. Also it seems that big Z was perfect for lebron due to the pick and pop they play all the time. With Big Z's range, they are able to give lebron a little room to operate in the paint. It might just be me, but Lebron is a lot less scarier when the lane is clogged up. I think that lbj and shaq is going to have the same problems amere and shaq did.

So now Wade and LBJ couldn't win without Shaq?
