It still looks like only a matter of time before Spain scores. They are getting wide open looks way too easily. The U.S. defense needs to start marking tighter.
^ fast forward espn360 to the 25th minute... then watch, leroy420. LOL @ possession % 61-39... like it really matters... but it's nice to know... make ONE MISTAKE and you're done, it seems. Nice post up by Altidore. Ref calls some, some he doesn't. Where does the Spanish streak stand currently... 35?
Don't have access to ESPN360. Would have probably done that already. Thanks, anyway. Couldn't have had a better first half. Spain is going to push and push hard in the 2nd. Can't keep giving the ball away coming out of the back. The defense is playing fantastic so far, but they have to find the mids when they win the ball. They've had some opportunities to pass instead of clearing and giving the ball right back. Spain is a possession driven team. You can't make it easier for them.
What are the rules around posting up? I thought forwards do it all the time when they're trying to hold the ball to keep it away from the defender.
I usually don't root for USA, but I hate the Spanish, so... USA! USA! USA! Spain has to score eventually, they are getting numerous chances.
We're getting outplayed and our one goal was a mixture of a great play by Altidore and a little luck...but we're still up. Get er done.
I totally disagree. There were too many balls played into open space and not a U.S. defender in sight. We were lucky not to give up 2 or 3 goals. The defense was loose and needs to make a serious adjustment or this 1 goal lead won't likely hold up.
The defense is playing amazing. We packed it in for the last 5-10 minutes but have you seen Spain play before? The defense is playing out-friggin-standing.
I lived in Spain for 6 months and watched several of their club teams live and on TV. I've also seen their national team play many times. I grew up playing soccer my entire life and played for the U-17 Olympic Development Team in the 90s. I know the sport better than any other sport. I just never post around here about soccer. There were several balls played near the corners of the 18 to open space with U.S. defenders late to pick up on a wide open Spanish player. We very easily could have given up 2 or 3 goals if not for some very close offsides calls and a couple of late recoveries and good saves. The defense up the middle was fairly good but a few of the balls played to the wings weren't typical where the ball was way out wide and a defender was right on the guy. They were closer in and there wasn't a defender in sight on more than one occasion.
anyone know of a working stream of this game? justin.tv sites are getting shut down due to copyright and espn360 doesn't work here... nothing showing up on channelsurfing.net either
Leave Davies in. He's creating. Not exactly that, but it was AWFULLY close. The game hasn't been called PERFECTLY, but it's good officiating so far. OMFG. No jinx, mo fos.
